True analog sound
My second analog synth. And it really is analog; so if you want to work with automation, forget it. Inspiring and solid piece of gear. Brings you an analog synth for a decent price. I just have to use it more often ;)

I literally make up excuses to use this synth on almost every song!
I love, love, love my Arturia MiniBrute. It's brash, warm, punchy, bold, and just straight-up dope! I don't understand how it's so underappreciated by the synth community, this thing is dope!

Honestly, I really dont like the build on this synth.
Honestly, I really dont like the build on this synth. I dont use it that much however I bring it to my friends a lot who jams guitar and Ill lay down some abstract bass lines haha.

So its not sturdy, how's the sound quality. I was thinking of buying one or maybe getting the micro to use as a module because they are so damn cheap.

The sound quality is meh. For me, I just understand synthesis to much to appreciate how little this synth can do.

I picked one up when they were first released. I was really disappointed with the build quality as well. The first time I played it, the metal weights under the keys started falling off. I ended up taking it back for a refund.
Build quality aside, it was a nice sounding mono-synth IMO. I'm a fan of the Steiner Parker Synthacon filter though.

Hey Jimmarchi1, Thanks for the reply and awesome question. It's made of steel. Weighs close to 8.8lbs. The micro was intentionally plastic for backpack gigging with an updated mini patchbay for which I am jealous of...lol

May I ask if you have since tried adding the Korg SQ-1 to your Minibrute? Just wondering how well they sync via cv/gate or midi? Thanks.

Hey, not been on here in a while so just saw your comment. I have not actually, only just picked up an SQ-1 the other week. Unfortunately the audio outputs of my Brute are broken so needing to get it fixed before testing. In the past I had a success with syncing via CV with Doepfer Dark Energy.
325
THEY DO! and the SQ-1 sings such a sweet song with its dual CV. I pair it with an SQ-8 and go nuts. Yes, it works great! I promise!

Love it.
As a beginner in synthesis, I found it very inviting, begging to be experimented with, played, and enjoyed. The frame, knobs, and switches of the keyboard feel solid, durable. The keybed and sliders, not so much. But as long as you're not thrashing, I imagine it all working forever!
325
It's that sweet keyboard though. Such squishy, modulating goodness lol
325
Good point... I agree. I am on my 2nd keybed and the one key popped up again... I must be banging it I think but nope... that with this keybed (the previous YES!) its that black plastic tab underneath near the keyspring. They snap off and then the keys all flappin about... Yep. But I still play it lol! Great review!

"There's my little modular system and I stole Szary's Arturia MiniBrute, which I'm using for a few songs. I re-programmed some sounds we used the modular for in the studio. It's nice because you have much more modulation moments. We have one part in Reminder, which we call the 'Chemical Brothers part' as it's full of modulation."

The filter in the MiniBrute is based on that of the Synthacon, with oversight from Nyle Steiner himself. This is explained in The Synthesizer by Mark Vail: https://pdfcoffee.com/mark-vail-the-synthesizer-pdf-free.html
The Synthacon’s filter isn’t unique; Arturia successfully implemented—under Steiner’s guidance—this type of filter in the MiniBrute analog monosynth (2012). You can also duplicate this positive feedback response with any synth that allows you to route the filter’s output back into its input.
(...) Among the many notable features of Arturia’s affordable MiniBrute monosynth is a new version of the positive-feedback self-oscillating resonant filter Nyle Steiner created for the Steiner-Parker Synthacon. To assure they did it right, Arturia engaged Nyle himself to approve the MiniBrute’s multimode filter. Yves Usson designed its analog circuitry, and Axel Hartmann arranged the layout of its controllers.
