Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Line 6 DL4 MkII.

Mods and upgrades

  • There is interest in modding the DL4 MkII to integrate a one-handed reverb control, potentially through a push-pull pot modification.

    Source
  • An extra pot mod in a guitar, acting like an expression pedal to control mix, was inspired by guitarist Dave Harrington's setup, offering unique control over effects.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • Assigning the tap switch as a One Switch Looper allows for recording loops with any active sound, unlike switching to Classic Looper mode which limits effects.

    Source
  • Owners note that using an expression pedal to control parameters like feedback or mix can significantly expand the pedal's capabilities, especially when creating custom presets.

    Source
  • The DL4 MkII allows for simultaneous use of delay and reverb, with the ability to choose their order or play them in parallel.

    Source
  • Some owners experience a layer of hiss added with each recorded loop pass on the DL4 MkII looper.

    Source
  • The DL4 MkII's feedback information is stored, causing previously used delay trails to reappear when the pedal is re-engaged, irrespective of bypass and trails settings.

    Source
  • The MkII includes “secret” reverbs, which are the same as those found in HX Stomp pedals, enhancing its versatility.

    Source

User experience

  • Users find the pedal's lack of visual feedback for bank changes challenging, as the color only dims or brightens without indicating the current bank clearly.

    Source
  • Some users report persistent issues with the reverse delay function, which doesn't replicate the original DL4's performance, despite firmware updates.

    Source
  • Some owners prefer using the DL4 MkII for its presets and looper, opting for dedicated pedals for reverb due to the MkII’s intricate functionality.

    Source
  • The looper feature is highly praised for its ease of use, with options for external tap tempo integration.

    Source
  • Owners find it challenging to navigate reverb choices due to the process of returning to the desired delay setting.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • The DL4 MkII reportedly benefits from adding a 2-button switch to optimize looper access and toggle parameters, though some still find the setup process overwhelming.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The DL4 MkII works well with synthesizers, enhancing its versatility beyond guitar use.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • Firmware updates are necessary to resolve issues like tap divisions not saving, although some find the process cumbersome.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Users note the MkII's legacy settings do not replicate the original DL4’s sound, suggesting they are recreations rather than exact ports.

    Source
  • About half of the DL4 MkII's delays are modern updates, differing from the legacy modes of the original, ensuring no dated sound.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • It's noted that DL4 MkII units can sometimes be found used for as low as $150, despite new units being priced around $250 in the U.S.

Line 6 DL4 MkII Guitar Effects Pedal Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Line 6 DL4 MkII is a stellar revival of a beloved classic, boasting a wealth of delay options and an intuitive design that enhances usability. Its new looper function and diverse sounds make it a versatile tool for both beginners and seasoned players. However, the learning curve for its tweak and reverb functionalities can be a bit steep, potentially overwhelming for those looking for quick adjustments. While the hidden reverb options add depth, they could benefit from dedicated controls for easier access. Overall, the DL4 MkII effectively retains its predecessor's charm while incorporating modern improvements, making it a worthy addition to any pedalboard.

The Big Review: Line 6 DL4 MkII – the classic multi-mode delay machine gets more than just a refresh

guitar.com

With the DL4 MkII, Line 6 successfully breathes new life into a beloved classic, delivering a robust update that expands its delay and reverb capabilities significantly. The addition of 15 new reverbs and enhanced looping features amplifies its versatility, making it a formidable tool for modern musicians. However, it's not without quirks; some users may find the noise floor higher than competitors, and while many new algorithms shine, a few feel redundant. Despite these drawbacks, the DL4 MkII’s exceptional audio quality and user-friendly design ensure it remains a must-have for fans of the original and newcomers alike.

Line 6 DL4 MkII Delay Modeler Pedal Review | GuitarPlayer

guitarplayer.com

The Line 6 DL4 MkII is a standout in the world of delay pedals, boasting an impressive array of classic and modern effects while retaining a user-friendly design. It introduces over 30 delay types, including new "Secret Reverbs," and a highly functional looper, all in a compact, robust package. However, some players may find the mix knob's sensitivity a tad abrupt, which could be a drawback for those seeking precise control. Still, the rich sound quality and versatility make it a worthy investment for any guitarist, especially at its competitive price point. An Editors’ Pick for a reason, the DL4 MkII delivers on both creativity and functionality.

positive

Line 6 DL4 MkII

soundonsound.com

The Line 6 DL4 MkII revives a beloved classic with impressive new features, boasting 30 delay types and 15 reverb algorithms that cater to both traditionalists and experimentalists. Its extensive connectivity options and versatile looper capabilities make it a powerhouse for live and studio use.
