Features and functionality
Use cases and applications
-
Works best when paired with a traditional amp rather than digital amp simulations to achieve authentic Sabbath tones.
Source -
The pedal excels in creating stoner metal tones akin to The Sword, Bongzilla, and early Orange Goblin by adjusting the range and presence controls.
Source -
Adjusting presence and range can also achieve tones reminiscent of Dopesmoker and Electric Wizard, making it versatile for various metal subgenres beyond Sabbath.
Source -
Functions as a legitimate pre-amp, capable of running directly into the power stage via the return loop for different tonal options.
Source
Setup and maintenance

Users report that running the pedal on its own 9V battery reduces noise compared to many power supplies.
Source
Comparisons
-
Some owners find it falls short of delivering true Iommi tones compared to the BCC TI boost.
Source -
Some users suggest that while it’s not the ultimate 'FUZZ' pedal, it competes well against more expensive options like Dunwich pedals for '70s fuzz tones.
Source -
The Creepy Fingers Brummie is favored for flexibility and subtlety, while the Sabbra Cadabra suits recording into a clean platform with its aggressive tone.
Source
User experience
-
Even at the lowest gain setting, it might produce too much gain for some users, affecting overall tonal clarity.
Source -
A user noted the pedal picks up radio frequencies, which may indicate compatibility issues with certain setups or environments.
Source -
Owners note that the pedal consistently runs hot, failing to deliver a clean signal even at the lowest gain setting.

Mods and upgrades
-
Consider installing a Dirty Hesher pickup in the bridge position to enhance clarity when using this pedal, especially with stock LP Studio guitars.

Get your Sabbath on!
Through the years there if there is one thing guitarists seem obsessed over is recreating the tone of their favorite guitarists. Very few have been as copied and studied than Black Sabbath's legendary guitarist, Tony Iommi. For years guys have been trying to nail down his signature sound by doing things like oddly tuning their guitars, modding amps, and it's basically created it's own submarket in the world of guitar effects as well. If you've been one of those guitarists seemingly searching to the end of the earth to figure it out, look no more. Through the years people figured out the key components to that classic Iommi sound, which was a custom-tuned Rangemaster based boost combined with the pre-amp section of the Laney Supergroup. The folks at Caitalinbread have managed to put those exact things into this very pedal. Prior to purchasing this one I had heard that the pedalheads at Caitalinbread were aiming specifically for the tone Iommi had on the "Past Lives" Sabbath live record, in that they wanted the tone to be super responsive, LOUD, and to give you the guitarist that huge sound that you want!
The details here are what is really impressive about the pedal. You can adjust the RANGE dial to adjust the amount of treble boost you want added to your guitar, which changes the responsiveness of the pedal, allowing you to have more control with adjusting your volume on your guitar. For me, this is key because it puts adjustments in your hands while you're playing, which is a win/win in my book. Also, to achieve that classic Iommi tone in the past, you would've certainly bothered your neighbors or loved ones cranking that amp to crazy levels, but with the Caitalinbread Sabbra Caddabra, you can keep everyone happy with acceptable noise levels, as well as yourself ripping some of those classic Sabbath riffs!!!!!!!!

great review... Nick always blew my mind with his amazing ideas for stomp boxes, he is so sorely missed... I hope the guys who are carrying on at CB keep up the conceptual end... I know that Nick had stepped away from the design end of things, but he was the driving (pun intended) force behind all of these amp-in-a-box ODs and I see these as a fabulous tone-clone solution for the working guitarist who just totes a fender DRRI or hot rod to gigs and needs a bunch of 70s album tone clones for his cover band... Nick really knew how to make solid tools for local working musicians and weekend warriors who never managed to build up a massive gear stable!

Thanks my man! I know, he had a knack for creating things guitarists actually want, as opposed to copying ANOTHER circuit. My favorite pedal companies/builders are always innovating and basically bringing something useful to guitarists. Not just trying to do what's cool, or what's the in thing at the moment. Guys that understand musicians and what musicians NEED, most likely from personal experience. I was very saddened by his passing, it's tragic for sure. But he will always have a legacy in the industry because of his creations, so it's kinda bitter sweet so to speak.

The best Distortion/Boost on the market
This pedal sounds absolutely vicious by itself. It sounds even better paired with the Tony Iommi TI Boost. It sounds amazing after a wah, and TI Boost.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage in a box
This clever fuzz-pedal combines a classic Laney overdrive with a treble boost... it makes my SG deliver doomy riffs like no other pedal!

During a recent Mudhoney concert in Cleveland, I observed Mark Arm using several new pedals on his board, including the Catalinbread Sabbra Cadabra. Additionally, I noted the EarthQuaker Devices Life V3 and two other Catalinbread pedals, along with a new Super Fuzz. This setup differed from what I saw in 2019.
According to Premier Guitar's article, Franklin uses the Catalinbread Sabra Cadabbra treble booster.
In this image, taken from his Premier Guitar interview, many of his studio pedals are photographed. One of the pedals in this photo is Catalinbread Sabra Caddabra.
