Description

Reviving the spirit of the first Darkglass design, the Darkglass Electronics Harmonic Booster is a clean bass preamp that masterfully manipulates harmonics and filtering. Its unique ability to sculpt the character and texture of a bass tone makes it an essential tool for any bassist.

This preamp is more than just a revival, it is a reinvention. Darkglass has infused this model with a decade's worth of experience and innovation, resulting in improvements in noise performance, headroom, and EQ flexibility. The Harmonic Booster is known for enhancing attack and presence, while shaping the mids for a percussive and aggressive character. While it is designed to perfectly complement Darkglass' distortion circuits, its flexibility and portability make it a one-stop solution for gigging musicians in search of a harmonically rich clean preamplifier.

Darkglass Electronics Harmonic Booster Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Darkglass Electronics Harmonic Booster shines with its stellar EQ and build quality, enabling bassists to achieve a thicker, more present tone without unwanted coloration. Its mid-frequency tuning is particularly beneficial for those with less flexible amps. However, at $200, it may be a hard sell for budget-conscious musicians. While the pedal provides subtle enhancements that can invigorate an already solid tone, its price could deter some from adding it to their rig. If you're willing to invest, the Harmonic Booster is likely to become a staple in your setup, but its cost might make you think twice.

Subtle, but better than changing pickups

In the 2000s I went through every set of EMG pickups to find ‘my tone’. £1k later I wasn’t satisfied. While expensive, this pedal lets you tweak the tone in a very usable way that is more effective than changing pickups. It’s not essential on my board, but as I have space I use it and am that little happier with my tone.

Thanks to Loren and Darkglass Electronics for these 2 new items on my pedalboard; The Microtube X7 and the Harmonic Booster !!! This formula is simple and effective with a big tone and bright while keeping the mids!!! 🔥🔥🔥 I strongly recommend these 2 items which facilitate playing in addition to the Super Symmetry Compressor that I had for 3 years now!👍👍👍
