Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Dunlop JH-1FW Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Wah.

Features and functionality

  • The pedal is notorious for not achieving unity gain and sounding like multiple fuzz faces chained together, leading to a spitty and unpredictable output.

    Source
  • The Dunlop JH-1FW allows toggling the signal path so the fuzz can precede or follow the wah effect.

    Source
  • The mix of NPN and PNP transistors in the circuit is not inherently problematic if properly biased, suggesting factory setup might be complex.

    Source

User experience

  • Users report that the pedal performs best with a half-drained battery, though the optimal tone lasts only about 15 minutes.

    Source
  • The Morley Maverick's delayed engagement and stiff spring are noted as usability drawbacks.

    Source

Comparisons

  • A Zakk Wylde Wah is recommended over the JH-1 Wah for better performance, as the latter is considered underwhelming.

    Source
  • The Morley 20/20's switchless design limits cocked wah tones as it turns off without constant pressure.

    Source
  • Fender Fuzz Wahs from the 70s offer a unique fuzz control by cocking the pedal left or right.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Voodoo Lab power supplies with sag function are suggested to mimic the optimal battery condition for improved performance.

    Source
  • Consider replacing 2N4125 PNP transistors with NPN equivalents if fuzz performance is compromised due to previous modifications.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The Dr. No's Roadrunner pedal is recommended for those seeking an integrated fuzz-wah experience.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Issues with the fuzz being quiet and gated might relate to previous modifications, as seen with improper PNP replacement or burnt traces.

    Source

Build quality

  • Multiple users report internal issues, including jumpers and burnt traces, indicating potential tampering or poor original assembly.
