Value and pricing

  • Mid-60s models with a white paper label can significantly increase in value, potentially reaching the $700 range if in great condition.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Issues noted with the bridge/saddle being potentially undersized, possibly affecting string spacing; a luthier's assessment is recommended.

    Source
  • A neck reset is often necessary for vintage models to play well, which can be costly and may not be worth the investment.

    Source
  • After a neck repair, expect some fret buzz and action that may not be perfect; new tuners are crucial as original ones often fail to hold tune.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • Excellent acoustic sound quality is generally reported, though the pickup may not perform as well.

    Source
  • Vintage models sometimes have evidence of past pickup installations, indicating their versatile usage history despite the lack of factory pickups.

    Source

Build quality

  • The guitars are heavily built, using nice wood, contributing to a vintage, funky, and boxy sound.

    Source

Not as strong as its VI sister

The neck snapped on mine after a couple of years - cracked right across behind the nut. The ranger 6 I bought around the same time has lasted a further 40 years.

"the guitar on the recording was a 12-string Eko guitar played by Sumner.[12] Sumner recalls:

Ian didn't really want to play guitar, but for some reason we wanted him to play it. I can't remember the reason now ... I think Ian used to play only on "Love Will Tear Us Apart" ... no I'm wrong, there was another track too. Maybe "Heart and Soul"? I do remember Ian used to play just one chord, which was D. We showed him how to play D and we wrote a song. I wonder if that's why we wrote "Love Will Tear Us Apart", you could drone a D through it. I think he played it live because I was playing keyboards. On the record I played guitar, a twelve string Eko guitar, an Italian guitar that actually sounded pretty good"
