Mods and upgrades

Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man 550-TT review on pedal-of-the-day.com

pedal-of-the-day.com

The Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man 550-TT is a nostalgia-packed analog delay pedal that holds its ground against its pricier siblings. It trims delay time to 550ms, matching the classic Memory Man, yet introduces modern features like tap tempo and six tap subdivisions. The modulation options offer a spectrum from subtle to psychedelic, while the FX Loop and expression pedal compatibility cater to creative experimentation. Although lacking the 1100-TT's longer delay and NOS chips, the 550-TT delivers a rich, classic delay experience with added versatility, making it a worthy addition to any pedalboard.

Not a Memory Man in every aspect

The 550-TT model is a Memory Man in case of it's basic characteristics and features but compared to the big box model and also the great XO model it lacks the lush and deep sounds of those units, in fact it sounds a lot more hifi. Tap tempo, expression and the effects loop are nice (for which I bought it actually) but senseless if you are losing the whole DMM vibe. Another annoying thing on the 550-TT is the use of a standard on/off-footswitch for the tap tempo instead of using a momentary switch.

Great sound and versatility

I love it. It has a great variety of configurations, although only one can be used at a time. The tap tempo is indispensable.

Delay...elay...lay..ay...ay...ay...ay...y...y...y

I love this thing. I've put an expression pedal with it and it just does everything an analogue delay should.
