Echoes of Vintage Warmth
Using the Strymon Volante Magnetic Echo Machine, we found ourselves immersed in a world of lush, vintage-inspired delays. This pedal is a powerhouse of features, offering tape, drum, and studio delay modes, along with a spring reverb and looper.
From the moment we unboxed it, the Volante's build quality impressed us. No surprise here, it's a Strymon. Made in the USA, it exudes durability and premium craftsmanship. The interface, while packed with knobs and switches, remains intuitive. We appreciated how easily we could dial in sounds, despite the depth of features available.
The sound quality is where the Volante truly shines. In our tests, it delivered exceptional clarity and definition across all delay types. We were particularly impressed by the ability to fine-tune the 'age' of the tape, allowing us to go from pristine echoes to worn, warbled repeats. The spring reverb adds a lovely dimension to the overall sound, and the stereo capability creates an immersive experience.
However, we did notice that while the Volante excels at vintage-style delays, the tonal differences between tape types were relatively subtle.
One aspect that gave us pause was the preset system. While eight presets are available, accessing more than two without external controls can be cumbersome. We also found ourselves wishing for more visible secondary functions on the main panel.
For us, the Volante represents excellent value for money, IF you're a musician passionate about tape delays. Its versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of instruments and genres.

Pro: - very versatile - easy to dial in - works perfect in a passive fx loop - great spring reverb included
Con: - Access to the 8 memory slots are only manually or via a seperate Footswitch or Midicontroller
Great Delay but priced too high
Very good pedal. Sounds amazing and has some really unique features. The analog JFET is a great gain/tone control. I used this pedal for quite a while and was very pleased with the majority of it's features. However, I found it to be a little underwhelming for the price point. It does so many things so very well, but just doesn't justify the price point or the footprint size. If you obsess over tape delays, I can't recommend this enough. If you need more versatility, this may not be the best pick for you. There are distinct tonal difference and modulation difference between the tape types but it's not an overwhelming distinction.

The head panning function is incredible, the sound is clear and clean, the sound on sound function is fantastic, all in all a great tape delay emulator.

as a fan of tape delays, it doesnt get any better than this! very intuitive and fast workflow, but still feature rich. very good for gigging and playing with bands since the controls are so well laid out. PRESETS!!! its also a bedroom/ambient musicians dream. you can SOS loop for days and be happy.

LOVE it
I was looking to get a real (reel) tape delay, but after watching reviews and then trying it on my own, it was a no brainer to keep it. I've used it for both my guitar rig, and as an outboard effect.
Using the "Mechanics" and "Wear" knobs is where the real magic happens.
