Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Gretsch G 5422 TG WS.

User experience

  • Owners highlight the Gretsch G5422TG's unique tonal character, which is distinctively "Gretsch" and well-suited for jazz but not the typical choice for that genre.

    Source
  • Despite being marketed for jazz, owners suggest trying the semi-hollowbody style before purchase due to its distinctive feel and sound.

    Source
  • It's noted that feedback can be managed on the G5420 by adjusting the clean volume and master controls, suggesting similar strategies for the G5422TG.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • The guitar is considered expensive in Norway at 1200 euros, but some owners have found used models for significantly less, enhancing its value appeal.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The G5422TG is praised for its versatility, allowing for both acoustic and amplified playing, ideal for relaxed, personal at-home sessions.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Korean-made G5422TG has a chunkier neck feel compared to the Chinese version, with a notably more attractive fretboard on some models.

    Source
  • Users note minimal audible differences between the new Chinese G5422TG and the older Korean versions, likening the subtle tonal variation to the difference between 720p and 1080p resolution.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Owners consider upgrading to "real" Filtertron pickups since the new Chinese models' pickups don't significantly outperform Korean Blacktop Filtertrons.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The trestle block in the Chinese models is claimed to improve bass response and feedback resistance, though some users question its effectiveness at reducing feedback significantly.

Great Hollow - fair pricing!

I bought this guitar in 2016, the price without the case was about 950 €. The guitar came in a very good fine factory-tuning and could be played very well from the beginning. A very fast fretboard, despite the high gloss finish - but a matte finish would not fit to such a hollow-body! All in all the 5422 TG in "walnut-stain" (WS) version is an excellent and well-balanced semi-acoustic with the typical country sound of a Gretsch! .. looks a little bit like the great brother "Country Gentlemen" The absolute highlight is, of course, the gold hardware and the huge Bigsby tremolo, which by the way is very tonally stable. It belongs rightfully to the middle class of hollow-body guitars.
