Fabulous guitar - versatile and deep
I've owned this Gretsch model for a month now and I find myself hardly able to put it down. It's a visually stunning instrument that genuinely wouldn't be out of place as a piece of wall art, but it plays beautifully as well with a lovely low action and rich sound.
Its basic clean tone can be likened to that of most Telecasters, a little bit twangy but you can lean either way with the two tone and pickup volume knobs. Having the master volume knob separate from these is great too, alongside a pickup switch. Big fan of the Bigsby bridge too, easily the best trem I've had on a guitar.
All in all, I couldn't really ask anything more from a hollowbody. Unplugged it's my ideal late night practice instrument, plugged in it can be whatever you make it.
Preferred Settings + Usage:
I like to max out the tone knobs, with the neck pickup volume set to about 65% and the bridge pickup volume at about 80%. This guitar sounds amazing with some subtle gain/distortion and reverb. Across a session I will make adjustments to the sound with the pickup switch and master volume knob.
