Gretsch G9555 New Yorker Archtop with Pickup review

guitar.com

The Gretsch G9555 New Yorker Archtop with Pickup is a nostalgic throwback that impresses with its vintage styling and charming, rootsy tone. While the loose volume pot and need for an additional strap button are minor annoyances, they don't overshadow its affordability and character. Its single-coil pickup offers a rich bass and flexible high end, ideal for both unplugged strumming and plugged-in performances. Though feedback can be an issue at high volumes, embracing its limitations can lead to creative results. Overall, this archtop is a delightful choice for retro enthusiasts and innovative performers alike.

Guitar-Bass.Net Reviews the Gretsch G9555 New Yorker Archtop with Pickup – Gretsch Guitars News

gretschguitars.com

The Gretsch G9555 New Yorker Archtop with Pickup dazzles with its rich tonal palette, earning a stellar 9 out of 10. Its single-pickup design, nestled at the fretboard's end, delivers a massive, sonorous low end without sacrificing sweet, biting highs. Ideal for fingerpicking, its wide frequency separation caters to solo performers, while its rosewood bridge injects a vintage character perfect for early '60s Brit R&B. Though its hollowbody design can induce feedback at high volumes, embracing this can lead to creative, inspiring results. This New Yorker is as comfortable with retro sounds as it is with modern experimentation, making it a versatile gem for innovative musicians.

Favorite guitar in my collection

I recently acquired this in July/August. It is one of the best sounding guitars I own. The DeArmond Rhythm Chief 1000 reproductions are perfect for early Chicago and Memphis style blues. The neck will take some getting used to if you've only ever played slim-tapered necked guitars like I did. Sounds good acoustically.
