Critic Reviews

Empress Effects ZOIA

soundonsound.com

Empress Effects ZOIA is a modular marvel, blending a guitar pedal with a synthesizer to offer endless creative possibilities. Its compact design houses over 80 modules, allowing users to craft custom effects, instruments, and even entire pedalboards. The recent firmware update enhances functionality and reduces CPU usage. While the ZOIA's small screen necessitates menu-diving, its intuitive interface and vibrant community support ease the learning curve. High-quality sound, particularly in reverb and delay, impresses, though integration with the Cab Sim module could be better. A versatile tool for studio and stage, but best suited for adventurous tone tweakers.

positive

ZOIA review: A complex and rewarding modular effects pedal

engadget.com

The Empress Effects ZOIA is a modular effects pedal that stands out for its versatility and creativity, allowing musicians to build custom effects and synths. Its complex interface can be intimidating, but rewards patient users with a nearly limitless array of sounds. While its single-knob design hinders quick adjustments, the ZOIA shines with its dynamic automation features and MIDI integration. It caters to those seeking unique sound creation, though it might be overkill for users seeking traditional effects pedals. Overall, its innovation and depth make it a standout for experimental musicians.

positive

Empress Effects Zoia review | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

The Empress Effects ZOIA is a modular synthesizer in pedal form that offers a world of creative possibilities for guitarists. It allows users to build custom effects with ease, thanks to its intuitive grid of 40 buttons and logical operation. The sound quality is exceptional, and it doubles as an instrument/synth. However, it has a learning curve, requiring some understanding of effects and synthesizer terms. The lack of a stereo headphone socket is a minor drawback. Overall, it's a powerful tool for those willing to invest the time to unlock its potential.

positive

Empress Effects Zoia review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Empress Effects ZOIA is a groundbreaking fusion of modular synth tones and guitar multi-effects, offering immense creative potential. It allows users to customize their own effects with ease, and functions as a standalone synth. Despite its intimidating array of buttons, the design is intuitive, allowing musicians to build virtual pedalboards and save up to 64 patches. Supreme control

This pedal does everything. And I don't been that lightly, I mean it literally dies whatever you can think of. It's baffling how empress have done it. This is an ocean of sounds, and a true undertaking to understand 100%, but even at my measly fraction of a percent of knowledge I've managed to exceed my expectations, every time. A must buy for anyone thinking about creating unique soundscapes or effects chains that normal pedals can't accomplish!
