Microtech Gefell UMT70S

soundonsound.com

With its warm, detailed sound and solid construction, the Microtech Gefell UMT 70 S stands out as a serious contender in the professional microphone market. The transformerless design enhances performance, providing lower noise and improved transient response. However, at a price point over £900, the absence of included accessories—aside from the wooden case—might deter budget-conscious buyers. Still, for those seeking high-quality audio capture, the UMT 70 S delivers impressive results that justify its cost.

Recording of Enema of the State. Used on the guitar cabs alongside a Royer R-121. Can be seen in various photos here: http://royerlabs.com/library/category/engineer/jerry-finn/ Since the photos only show the back side of the mic, it could also be the Microtech Gefell MT 71 S which is basically the same microphone minus the polar pattern options. The distinction would only be visible on the front of the mic. However, the UMT 70 S is more likely to appear in a studio environment as it proves to be more variable in application.
