Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Blue Bluebird.

Features and functionality

  • Known for its brightness, the Blue Bluebird has a boost in the 3-5kHz range, which can enhance warm vocals but may be too bright for naturally bright voices.

    Source
  • The Bluebird's clarity and nuance are comparable to higher-end mics, making it a cost-effective choice for clear vocal recordings.

    Source
  • The Bluebird SL includes a high pass filter switch that cuts low-end frequencies, typically between 80-100Hz, to reduce muddiness in mixes.

    Source
  • The switch to the right on the Bluebird SL activates the high pass filter, while the left position maintains a flat EQ for full frequency pickup.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • This microphone is better suited for smoky, raspy, or breathy voices, but may not complement deeper or bass-heavy vocalists.

    Source
  • The Bluebird is favored by professionals in audiobook and narration due to its suitability for softer or higher voices.

    Source
  • For educational videos and online calls, it's suggested that improving internet connection and room treatment can enhance perceived audio quality more than upgrading the mic.

    Source
  • Owners recommend using the high pass filter for vocal recordings to keep vocals clear, while leaving it off for low-frequency instruments like brass.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Many prefer the Audio Technica AT-4040 for a similar price, citing its balanced high-end that doesn't feel "hyped" like the Bluebird.

    Source
  • The AKG C414 is highlighted as a notable upgrade for professional voice work, offering a more "real" sound and used by professionals for its versatility.

    Source
  • The Slate ML-1 is praised as an excellent upgrade choice due to its emulation capabilities, allowing users to switch between different mic models without purchasing multiple mics.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Adjusting mic placement, such as positioning it slightly above and angling it down, can enhance the chest tone and manage its brightness.

    Source
  • Using a foam sock on the Bluebird can help reduce the high-end brightness, offering a different approach than post-production EQ adjustments.

    Source
  • It's advised to refer to the microphone's manual for comprehensive setup information, including frequency response and pickup patterns.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Some buyers have found the Bluebird at significant discounts, such as $120 during Black Friday sales, although it generally retails for around $200-250.

    Source

User experience

  • Some users experience recording issues after accidental drops, indicating the Bluebird may be sensitive to physical impacts.

BLUE Bluebird

soundonsound.com

The Blue Bluebird microphone shines as a versatile studio tool, boasting smooth, detailed sound and a visually appealing design. It excels with vocals and various instruments, delivering a crisp, clear audio quality. While the included accessories add value, the mic's hypercardioid nature is a surprise, offering less rear rejection than expected. Minor cable issues aside, it remains a solid choice for both novices and seasoned users seeking a reliable, all-purpose microphone.

Really great mic especially for the price!

I haven't tested many mics but I can say that I am extremely happy with this one! This is a great intermediate mic. With some good work in post you can make this mic sound extremely well. I can pick up the lows, mid, and highs pretty well. The sound coming out of the mic comes out neutral which is all I ask for!

jacque_dewalt

Great sound, beautiful mic, poor build quality.

I love the way this mic sounds. It is very warm, but the build quality is not so great. It comes with a cheap pop filter that doesn't not really work that great and the main capsule feels as if it is going to fall off the body of the mic. For the price, I think they could include a better pop filter and deliver better build quality.

ecco_aqua

best bang for your buck male vocal mic

got this hooked thru an aphex 107 mic pre and it sounds glorious, better imo than a few neuman mics in regards to male vocals due to the nice low end boost this mic gives.

jimmarchi1

you'd like the baby bottle too

ecco_aqua

thats the one i really want but that price doh

jimmarchi1

nah, the BABY bottle.... the full size bottle is awesome too, the tube one? but the baby bottle is a slightly different capsule and more retro electronics than the bluebird but in a very similar enclosure. Its got even deeper lows and excels at bass cabients and acoustic bass instruments like upright and cello

ecco_aqua

oooooohhhh well maybe ill try that one out after a while. Im really diggn this one and helped some people setup a home studio with the spark and that was hella good value for like what 200 bux?

loganpollard

kidlaofficial

Great Tone and Perfect Recording

I can't say much, I think there's something wrong with mine since it was given to me, but it still records clear and toned well.
