Critic Reviews

Novation Circuit Rhythm

soundonsound.com

The Novation Circuit Rhythm offers a portable and powerful sampling experience, blending intuitive design with advanced performance features like slicing and live sampling. Its compact form and internal battery make it a perfect companion for on-the-go music makers. However, the lack of a screen can hinder usability, particularly in low-light conditions, and its sound design capabilities are somewhat limited compared to pricier alternatives. Despite these drawbacks, the Circuit Rhythm shines in live performance settings, providing a versatile and engaging platform for creativity.

Novation Circuit Rhythm review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

While the Novation Circuit Rhythm offers an impressive range of sampling capabilities and a robust build, it falls short in some areas that may frustrate users. The lack of a screen complicates sample editing and navigation, making it less intuitive than its sibling, Circuit Tracks. Despite its powerful features like expanded sampling modes and grid FX for live performance, the monophonic sampling and occasional confusion in workflow detract from the overall user experience. It's a solid addition to the Circuit lineup but may not resonate as strongly with everyone.

Novation Circuit Rhythm Review - Digital DJ Tips

digitaldjtips.com

A fresh take on beat-making, the Novation Circuit Rhythm thrives on its hands-on design, lightweight build, and intuitive sampling capabilities. Musicians will appreciate the rich array of effects and seamless project management through the Novation Components app. However, the lack of a screen presents a steep learning curve, forcing users to rely on muscle memory for editing. While it successfully carves out a niche for DJs wanting to blend live beats without a laptop, it may not be the best fit for those who prefer more refined controls. Overall, it’s a compelling option for aspiring beat-makers, but be prepared to invest time in mastering its quirks.

positive

Novation Circuit Rhythm review

engadget.com

The Novation Circuit Rhythm is a compelling entry-level sampler that balances affordability and versatility, making it an appealing choice for budding producers. With a user-friendly sampling workflow and an intuitive sequencer, it shines in crafting lo-fi beats. However, the learning curve may be steeper than expected, and some effects can feel inconsistent. While it lacks certain advanced features found in competitors and may not meet the needs of seasoned users, it's a solid option for those looking to start making music without a computer. Overall, it’s a worthwhile addition for anyone eager to explore sampling and beat-making.

Novation Circuit Rhythm: The Review - gearnews.com

gearnews.com

The Novation Circuit Rhythm is a delightful groovebox that marries beauty with functionality, offering an inviting workflow for beat-making enthusiasts. Its streamlined design and user-friendly features make it a joy to create music. However, the device has its drawbacks: the sampling limitations can be frustrating, particularly the vague documentation regarding memory and recording time, which may deter some users. While it excels in fun and accessibility, seasoned producers might find the lack of depth in advanced features a bit underwhelming. Overall, it stands out as a great tool for creative exploration, particularly for those new to beat production.

Fun for the road and more

My friends at Novation gifted this and a few other gems to me before a June / July 2022 tour. It took some time and a few youtube videos to get me started since there is lots of "shift+press" type functionality but I have found this to be a fun machine.

I flew to Ireland, then over to England and a few train rides between Leeds and London and never had to recharge the battery!

I will be creating sounds for the new libraries for this series of machine. You can sample directly into it or drag sounds from a computer, etc.

The internal sounds are weak to my tastes but once you add your own sounds, you will find a very capable and creativity inspiring groove box which is light weight for ultra portable action!
