Roland Juno-DS61 (DS76 | DS88) review: Still Good in 2024?

pianodreamers.com

The Roland JUNO-DS61 offers a strong sound library and robust build quality, making it a great choice for performing musicians on a budget. Its lightweight design and portability are ideal for gigging, and the synth-action keys are responsive and enjoyable to play. The onboard effects and expandability options provide ample versatility across different music styles. However, some features like the phrase pads and mic effects feel more like bonuses than essentials. The weighted keys on the DS88 variant may not suit everyone, feeling heavier than desired for some users. Despite these downsides, the JUNO-DS's value for money and ease of use make it a solid option for those seeking reliable performance without breaking the bank.

Roland JUNO DS61 review | Digital Piano Review Guide

digitalpianoreviewguide.com

The Roland JUNO-DS 61 shines with its user-friendly interface, customizable sounds, and portability, making it a top pick for gigging keyboardists and home studio musicians on a budget. Its intuitive controls and extensive patch library are major selling points. However, the unweighted keys may disappoint pianists seeking a digital piano feel, and its basic LCD screen limits onboard sound editing. While lacking the premium sound library of higher-end models, it competes well within its price range. Overall, it's an excellent choice for live performers and casual recording artists, but less so for those seeking a piano substitute or advanced sound design capabilities.

Great

The DS61 is a great synth/keyboard, some patches sound very nice and are reminiscent of some older, vintage synths. The keyboard feels great and have many configuration options regarding key placement and velocity. To me, it's not very versatile regarding making your own synth sounds, but some of the preset patches get the job done, although as a keyboard it's amazing. Overall great keyboard/synth.
