Description

Strymon's Cloudburst Ambient Reverb pedal is a game-changer in the world of music gear, designed for guitarists and bassists who are keen to explore new sonic territories. This innovative pedal is not just a reverb processor, but a creative tool that opens up a world of ambient soundscapes.

At the core of the Cloudburst is the Ensemble engine, a powerful feature that generates synth-like pads, reacting organically to your playing. As you switch pickups or move to different frets, the Cloudburst responds in real-time, creating unique ambient tones and textures. This intuitive design allows your tone to bloom and sing, like nothing else on the market.

Despite its complex sound engine, the Cloudburst remains user-friendly. Its simplified control set lets you shape your signature sound with ease. The Level, Decay, and Pre-Delay knobs control the output volume, sustain, and initial onset of the reverb, respectively, while the Tone knob adjusts the color of the reverb. A toggle switch allows you to select between reverb and pad modes.

The Cloudburst is also designed to endure the rigors of the road, housed in a rugged aluminum chassis. It offers full stereo ins and outs, along with MIDI and USB connectivity for integration into complex rigs. All these features are packed into a compact, pedalboard-friendly footprint, making the Cloudburst an ideal companion for any musician.

Critic Reviews

Strymon Cloudburst Ambient Reverb review | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

Strymon's Cloudburst Ambient Reverb shines with its compact design and stunning versatility, delivering lush ambient reverbs and practical sounds without convoluted secondary functions. The innovative Decay knob allows for an impressive range of reverbs, from small spaces to ethereal soundscapes, while its MIDI capabilities and user-friendly interface are significant advantages. However, its price point may deter some potential buyers looking for more affordable options. Overall, it's a top-tier choice for those seeking expansive, dreamy textures in a pedalboard-friendly format.

Strymon Cloudburst Ambient Reverb Pedal review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

Strymon's Cloudburst Ambient Reverb is a sonic powerhouse, delivering stunning ensemble sounds and a remarkable range in a compact package. Its touch-sensitive response and innovative Ensemble mode set it apart, making it a joy for ambient and post-rock musicians alike. However, to unlock its full potential, you'll need to invest in the additional Mini Switch for certain features, which may deter budget-conscious players. While the price tag is hefty, the exceptional tonal quality and versatility of the Cloudburst make it a worthy addition to any pedalboard, especially for those seeking a modern classic in reverb.

positive

Strymon Cloudburst review

guitar.com

Strymon's Cloudburst reverb pedal is a compact powerhouse that delivers stunning ambient tones with impressive versatility. Its compact design houses advanced features, including a unique Ensemble mode that transforms your sound into lush, orchestral textures. While the pedal excels in creating ethereal soundscapes and offers a fun, multi-functional control system, it may fall short for those seeking extensive tweakability found in larger models. A must-have for ambient enthusiasts, just keep in mind it’s not the most affordable option on the market.

positive

Strymon Cloudburst

soundonsound.com

The Strymon Cloudburst Ambient Reverb pedal delivers a stunning array of lush reverbs that can transform any soundscape, making it a dream for ambient musicians. Despite its compact size, it excels in both quality and versatility, offering everything from tight room sounds to expansive, ethereal tails. However, the need for additional switches or adaptors for patch changes during performances can be a hassle, and the absence of a power supply in the box may frustrate some users. Overall, if you're into rich, atmospheric tones and can overlook these minor inconveniences, the Cloudburst is a worthy investment that will elevate your sound.

positive

Strymon Cloudburst Review: A washy wonder of a reverb pedal

musictech.com

Strymon's Cloudburst Ambient Reverb delivers exceptional soundscapes with its lush, expansive reverb and unique ensemble feature that adds a harmonic layer to your sound. Its compact design and straightforward controls make it a user-friendly addition to any pedalboard. However, the lack of separate speed and depth controls for modulation may frustrate those seeking greater tweakability. Additionally, the requirement for a quarter-inch TRS jack for MIDI compatibility could be a hassle for some users. Overall, the Cloudburst shines in creating rich textures, but a few design choices may hold it back from being a perfect solution for all musicians.

Much More Than a Reverb Pedal

Calling the Cloudburst a reverb pedal feels unfair. It acts more like a string synth for your instrument. I use it only with bass guitar, and even on the first day, I was amazed by the lush, pad-like textures. The Ensembles mode adds an organic layer that sounds almost like real strings behind your playing. The interface is very clean and simple. I’ve tried many other reverb pedals before, but Cloudburst opened up a whole new ambient space. I’m already in love with it.

Positive

I was never big on reverbs until recently, tried a few prior to this but they don't have what I was looking for. This one is nice because it doesn't have a million different settings, I like when theres just a couple knobs. The ensemble setting when on "forte" can be a bit much, but for my usage I generally leave ensemble off and stack it with the Phase 90 and Boss CE-5 for my clean tone

Disappointed

I had high hopes. This was going to be the one I had been looking for.

I loved the idea that it had an expression pedal jack and that I could go from a room to a hall to a cloud with the tilt of my foot. Unfortunately, there are loud record scratch artifacts when you go from room to hall and from hall to Cloud.

The Cloud reverb isn't the Strymon Bigsky Cloud Reverb.

The synthesized strings effect that the entire pedal is built around is garbage.

Sorry to hear it, but your clear, honest take is appreciated.

Incredible

Quite possibly the most beautiful reverb out there. Worth every single penny to drift away in the string quartet-like waves
