the destroyer is better than I remembered
got one ofthese and man... everything I remembered.... this lives on my B Bus in parallel... just god yeah, its everything a distressor tries to be at extreme settings with nothing but the anger and pummeling and subtle distortion... on its own maybe good for room mics or something but as a parallel send jesus! SWEET JEEEE-ZUS... sounds like a record.
Get a later valley international branded unit, the original rack case is total garbage and was improved later in the 80s.

they're around... my buddy got this untested from an estate sale.... it probably needs service but it works and makes music... its missng a knob for the expander range but no one uses it as an expander, I'm sure its good at it and all, but really? you can find these around though if you want one, its kidna notorious as a murderous drum assassin now so prices for well cared for one are a bit exhorbitant

Sold, had a bad voltage regulator so it went to a dude with spare regulators. I couldn't get one due to the chip shortage, plus the rack case on the 1st gen units is garbage, mine wss really beat and the valley international units sound identical.

In this enlarged photo from a French music publication you can see the familiar black and silver cosmetic and distinctive font of a Valley People Dyna-mite on the piece of gear 2nd from bottom below the Composer. I would know the dynamite, I have 3 of them including one of these early ones... apart from the font you can't miss those awful circular Valley power and link buttons on the right of the unit that don't light up but just have a colored piece of paper push forward to indicate they're engaged. The device is on because the yellow paper is showing through the power button on the right but we know daft punk's channels are not linked because the link button on the left is showing black in the clear plastic.
"This was a multi–tasking piece of outboard gear: stereo limiter, gate, ducker, de–esser. We would compress the drum overheads with it when we tracked. It has a very aggressive sound. Bob Mould was the producer on one of the first Tar Baby sessions we did. He REALLY liked to compress the overheads. Then we would gate the plate reverb through it for a gunshot snare sound when we mixed. Used on a LOT of sessions."
