It's a reboxed Steinberg and despite some mid-tier reviews, I like it. Clean and clear, low noise! Class A preamps!
It's plug and play with Linux and Reaper so that works for me! Had to switch from Pulseaudio to ALSA, but that's no biggie. I'm on Linux so I can't use, or rate, the software, as software never works on linux :( It has lots of clean gain, and is very low noise. I only record acoustic fingerstyle guitar, so that's all I can comment on. In the acoustic fingerstyle world, we want clarity, and detail. It does that really well. It doesn't sound dull, or sterile, but also not noticeably warm. It's accurate and clean, and that's what I like. I have done a 4 mic recording, and you can hear all 4 channels in the headphones. It has hardware based direct monitoring so there is no latency. USB class compliant (like I said it works on Linux) Shows up in Reaper as a Steinberg lol. Yamaha took over their hardware production and just reboxed this. I was able to get one open box with tax and everything off ebay for $288 in Feb. 2026 America. So that was a pretty decent deal. I LIKE IT! I have also owned an Audient id14 and a SSL 2 for the record. They all have good preamps, so don't stress. Get a good instrument in a good room, and give a great performance, and you will be happy! :)

The yamaha urx44c is identical to the steinberg ur44c. Yamaha has taken over hardware production for steinberg so they can focus on software. It even shows up in my daw as a steinberg lol. Simply a reboxing. But the item itself is good! see my review of the yamaha for more deets.
