Critic Reviews

Zoom TAC-2

soundonsound.com

The Zoom TAC-2 presents an affordable entry into the world of Thunderbolt interfaces, offering solid audio quality and convenience for mobile use. Its standout features include quality preamps and impressive D-A converters, making it a viable option for those on a budget. However, the build feels a bit flimsy, and the DSP effects are rudimentary at best. The need for software to handle direct monitoring and some other key functions can be inconvenient. While it competes well on price, potential buyers might find more robust alternatives in similarly priced USB or Firewire interfaces.

Review: Zoom TAC-2 Desktop Audio Interface — AudioTechnology

audiotechnology.com

Zoom's TAC-2 is a solid two-channel Thunderbolt audio interface for Mac users, offering impressively low latency and bus-powered convenience. It shines with its clean preamps and handy auto-gain feature, although it lacks a Thunderbolt thru port and expansion options. If you're after a straightforward, high-speed interface without the need for additional power supplies, the TAC-2 is a great contender for your desktop setup.

Zoom TAC-2 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

Zoom TAC-2 impresses with stellar sound quality and low latency, making it a great choice for those who want to leverage Thunderbolt connectivity. Its compact size and build are commendable, though the wobbly rotary control feels less refined. With audio capture up to 24-bit/192kHz, it stands out for recording quality and ease of use, especially with the included Thunderbolt cable eliminating the need for an external power supply. However, its limited I/O falls short compared to USB counterparts, and its metering lacks precision. While not the best value for I/O, it offers excellent performance for its price.

Up and running in seconds

Plugged it in, installed software and was playing with zero latency in Amplitube in under 2 mins. Mic Pres sound ok, and it's blazingly fast. Decided to go with this over the UAD one simply because of the affordability. Bus powered so you can take it on the go with you. Feels like a high quality unit so far, and I've gotten a few decent ideas down thanks to it.
