Moog Music traces its origins to 1953, when Robert Moog and his father founded R. A. Moog Co. in Trumansburg, New York, initially building and selling theremin kits. In 1964, Moog introduced the first voltage-controlled modular synthesizer, an instrument defined by its transistor ladder filter — a circuit that gave Moog synthesizers their signature warm, resonant character. That innovation reshaped electronic music, and the company's instruments became foundational tools across virtually every genre. The Minimoog, released in 1970 as a compact, self-contained version of the modular system, became one of the most influential musical instruments in history, eventually selling over 13,000 units.

Moog's catalog has expanded far beyond its origins, encompassing semi-modular instruments like the Grandmother and Matriarch, Eurorack-compatible modules including the Mother-32, DFAM, and Subharmonicon, and flagship synthesizers like the Minimoog Voyager. The company designs and builds its instruments in Asheville, North Carolina, and has maintained analog circuitry at the core of its product philosophy across generations of hardware.

The list of artists who have used Moog synthesizers spans decades and genres. Wendy Carlos's Switched-On Bach (1968) introduced the instrument to mainstream audiences and won three Grammy Awards. Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, and Giorgio Moroder each helped define the synthesizer's expressive range, and Moog instruments have remained a staple among film composers, electronic producers, and rock musicians ever since.

Moog has 201 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Synthesizers, Modular Synthesizers, and Delay Effects Pedals. Their gear is featured by 1599 artists, with the strongest followings in Electronic, Rock, and Pop. Notable users include Deadmau5, The Real Mike Dean, and Trent Reznor. Most Moog products sit firmly in the high-end, boutique range.
