Best software I have used!

I used to use Audacity but then at College they used Pro Tools 10 and I loved it so much. It was a professional looking software and it has so many options. My dad bought me Pro Tools 12 and I am always using it now for recording, I use it for recording my solo EP and my bands upcoming EP. People will give it crap but it is honestly perfect, it has everything and it is a simple layout, the mixing part is very easy because of the way they layed it out, it's also very easy to copy and paste tracks and adjust levels. It has plenty of great plugs in that can make your audio recording sound perfect and professional.

Pro Tools is obviously very expensive but it is worth buying, it's very easy to record and mix with. It has many great plug ins and you can record as many tracks as you want.

I have Free Upgrades, but this works for me.

Hard to pick up, Protools has it's ups and downs. I mainly focus on the ups. I love being able to render effects using audio suite. I'm not a fan of automation because I find it distracting, so being able to render my effects quickly allows me to save on time, and cpu.

I find that sticking with a software and really learning alllll of it's functionality is great. I treat Protools like an instrument, not a DAW, and that is why it works for me.

Editing is fast, and there are TONS and TONS of resources out there for free tutorials on how to use this unser-unfriendly software.

I call it "Slow Tools"

I'm Operator certified in Music and Post Production for Pro Tools 10 and hate it all.

But I use it for editing nasty bits of audio sometimes. I've been in forensic audio before and had to use it over Goldwave. With the advent of Pro Tools | First, I might give it another go. Generally it has been trumped by me in every field except recording and editing. it is by far the most powerful and professional in those areas.

Um, it's ProTools

Yes, it's true that most studios keep older versions of PT on backup systems, and for whatever reason certain engineers will prefer certain vintages. I suspect this is because the layout and overall user experience changes slightly from version to version. This is my first version, so I'm using this latest incarnation and loving it. After being in so many studios over the decades and watching engineers work their magic, it's great to finally have my own system. Running on Windows 10 without issues knock on wood

Best DAW anyone can ask for.

After getting recommended this from a friend, I soon feel in love with it. I came from REAPER, which for me, was what I thought was all I needed. After making the switch I soon found myself in love with Pro Tools. It's primarily as easy to use as Garage Band, with really an option for anything. The only issue I have with it is that it takes up a shit ton of RAM. Other than that, it's really anything you'll ever need. The price tag is a bit hefty unfortunately.

Industry standard DAW, very powerful and flexible.

Pro Tools definitely has a learning curve and it's not cheap. That being said, it's still the industry standard and it's very powerful once you know how to use it. I can find my around, having just gotten my 101 level certification, but I still have much to learn. There's a reason Pro Tools still dominates the market in the pro sectors. I'm not a fan of AVIDs pricing on this program as well as about everything else they sell, but they do generally make great products.

the most hateable piece of software ever concocted. celebrates adding features that have been standard for a decade or more in every other DAW, still has the audacity to call itself the industry standard and asks you to fork out for a useless new version number every other year

The Only thing i don't like about it is the MIDI interfacing and the need for iLok, aside that is freaking good

protools has always been the weakest DAW for MIDI, that's just not what it was designed for... I thought the iLok was a drag at first, but so many of the top plugin companies require it now that I am glad I had to get one. There's stuff I never woulda tried if I hadn't needed an iLok for protools (even though I seldom use pt). Its still a vast improvement over those early USB dongles they used to make us use for copy protection. They were the worst! and they were all proprietary so you filled up a pile of USB slots with them if you wanted to sue all your fancy plugins on a track. Its a vast improvement to centralize all your software licenses on 1 USB port.

I ended up leaving Pro Tools after the version I had no longer allowed me to import audio files into a project. I use an Apple computer, so I swapped over to Logic Pro X and I love it!

I remember when logic wasn't owned by apple and it was called creator.... and it was just MIDI and it only ran right on an Atari PC

even when protools started to become usable you wound up running one computer for MIDI and another to record, Atari and a mac or PC respectively... then Logic became Logic and notator became Cubase and things just got way better... Cubase became Cubase VST.... you guys have it so good.
