Owner Insights
We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about EarthQuaker Devices Pitch Bay.
Features and functionality
-
The Pitch Bay excels in creating octave fuzz, organ, bass, and 12 or 18 string guitar sounds with its versatile pitch shifting and gain controls.
Source -
The Pitch Bay lacks labeled intervals or key modes, making it challenging for beginners to select precise harmonies compared to pedals with key-specific controls.
Source -
The Pitch Bay is reported to have a constant chorused warble, which EarthQuaker Devices markets as a feature, but some users perceive it as flawed pitch shifting.
Source
Comparisons
-
Users find the Pitch Bay superior to the Micro POG in terms of pitch and gain features, though POG slightly edges in tracking accuracy.
Source -
The Pitch Bay is roughly half the size of the Micro POG, making it a more compact option for pedalboards.
Source -
Unlike the Pitch Bay, the Boss HR-2 can perform both parallel and diatonic harmonies, offering more versatility in harmony creation.
Source -
The EHX Pitchfork offers more range with 2-3 octaves and includes an expression input, making it versatile like a whammy pedal, unlike the Pitch Bay.
Source -
The Digitech Whammy 5 is noted for its robust pitch-shifting algorithms, especially effective for lower tunings compared to the Pitch Bay, which struggles with stability.
Source
User experience
-
It's noted that the Pitch Bay pairs well with overdrives but may become choppy with high-gain distortions, especially metal distortion.
Source -
Some users find the Pitch Bay's pitch shifting to be shaky and out-of-tune, especially compared to more modern alternatives like the Boss PS-6.
Source -
Some users have found the Pitch Bay to exhibit significant glitching beyond +/-4 semitones, even with a clean guitar signal, indicating possible limitations in its pitch-shifting algorithm.
Source
Use cases and applications
-
The pedal is favored for achieving tones reminiscent of The Black Keys, Jack White, and Queens of the Stone Age when used with additional gain.
Source -
While the Pitch Bay tracks slightly less accurately than the POG, users with untrained ears might not notice significant differences.
Source -
The Pitch Bay may appeal to those seeking an organ-like sound due to its inherent chorused effect, though this is a subjective preference.

the Pitch Bay by EQD has a fairly transparent octave effect with a subtle but noticeable chorus at the same time, would be best in a shoegaze or psychedelic band. This pedal has its place and its firmly grounded in these styles.
