10 x 4 Thunderbolt interface with two Clarett mic preamps.
Are you up to Thunderbolt speed? The Focusrite Clarett Series audio interfaces can deliver. Designed for more permanent installations, the Clarett 2 Pre combines two newly designed Clarett mic preamps, with class-leading digital conversion and extraordinarily low round-trip latency - so low that you can use DAW plugins while monitoring your recordings. It offers superbly low noise and distortion, plus the "Air" effect that models the sound of Focusrite's renowned ISA transformer-based preamps. It also features gain controls with a special law that makes changes smoother and more natural. Complete with Focusrite's acclaimed precision conversion offering up to 119dB real-world dynamic range, there's no better - or faster - way of getting audio into or out of your DAW at the highest possible quality.
With ten inputs and four outputs, Focusrite's Clarett 2Pre Thunderbolt interface is ideal for the discerning Singer Songwriter. It includes two newly-designed Clarett mic preamps accessed direct from the front panel, plus class-leading digital conversion and millisecond-level low round-trip latency - so low that DAW plugins can be used while monitoring recordings: for example to add reverb in the headphones for a vocalist.
The new Clarett mic pre offers very low-noise (EIN -128) and distortion, and also includes the switchable "Air" effect that models the sound of Focusrite's renowned ISA transformer-based preamps. It also features gain controls with a special law that makes changes smoother and more natural.
Focusrite has been known for top-quality digital conversion for almost as long as it has been respected for its microphone preamps, and the Clarett 2Pre is no exception. Featuring the latest in Focusrite precision digital conversion, 2Pre's 192kHz/24-bit converters deliver up to 118dB (A/D from mic pre)/119dB (D/A line out) real-world dynamic range.
The two primary inputs are on the front panel in the form of mic/instrument/line combo XLR/TRS sockets and feature the newly-designed Clarett mic pres; in addition, an ADAT optical input can be used to expand the 2Pre's input capability with eight additional digital channels. The instrument-level inputs are designed with exceptional headroom, to accept the highest output pickup without distortion.
Clarett 2Pre includes Focusrite's signature Gain Haloes surrounding the gain controls. These give a simple go/no-go indication of level - green indicates a signal while red indicates that the signal is too hot.
A new software mixer, Focusrite Control, is included for easy configuration of monitoring and routing setups. Simple and intuitive to use, Focusrite Control offers a traditional mixer workflow and allows immediate access to internal hardware functions. Every Clarett also includes the Red 2 & Red 3 AAX, AU & VST Plug-in Suite, which accurately models Focusrite's classic Red range equalizer and compressor hardware.

_Saturation Knob: _Add grit and warmth to any sound source with this modeled output distortion unit. Use
it to fatten up bass lines, add some harmonics and shimmer to vocals, or simply destroy your drum loop.
Simply turn up the knob to add saturation, and use the three-position switch to alter the distortion character.
Latency is extremely low. I get 3.70 ms of roundtrip latency on a 44100 Sample rate with a buffer size of 32 samples or 4.42ms at a buffer size of 64 samples. The maximum lowest latency is 1.0 ms roundtrip latency with a sample rate of 192000 and a buffer size of 32 samples. These sizes could change depending on what computer you have. For this test, I am using a Mac Mini with intel 2.6GHZ processor with 8GB of RAM.
Awesome sound card. Bought it to replace my AKAI EIE PRO that I had for years but no longer worked in a newer update of OS X. The bundled software is incredible, pres sound amazing, and the expandability is great as well
I needed to replace my older interface, read great things about the new family of Focusrite Thunderbolt audio interfaces and decided to give it a go. It's fast, but probably beyond the need of most people producing in their bedrooms, and I am definitely using just a fraction of what it can do. I found the software not that intuitive but - in most cases - you will never need to use it but for the very first time at installation.
My knowledge of audio interfaces isn't strong enough for me to get into the nitty gritty, but I suppose if I can use it without issue, despite my limited understanding, that's a commendable thing.
Sadly I had to bury my trusty ol' 2i2 after 5 years of use and abuse on the road and in the studio. But when I first set up the Clarett with the Air Mode enabled I couldn't help but smile. What an amazing sounding interface <3
great bit of kit, lowest latency interface I've ever used and the responsiveness confirms this. compact, easy to install and has all the features you need for a one manned studio. great customer service from focusrite.
