Critic Reviews

Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP

soundonsound.com

The Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 DSP impresses with its added DSP functionality, offering latency-free dynamics and EQ processing, plus a useful comfort reverb. The Virtual Reference Monitoring (VRM) feature enhances headphone mixing by simulating real loudspeaker environments. However, its lack of high-end monitoring options limits potential, and recording with DSP isn't intuitive. Despite these drawbacks, it offers a practical solution for headphone-based mixing, especially for those constrained by their monitoring environment. Overall, it’s a solid enhancement over its predecessor, but could have aimed higher in its VRM offerings.

Focusrite: Saffire PRO 24 DSP | Tape Op Magazine | Longform candid interviews with music producers and audio engineers covering mixing, mastering, recording and music production.

tapeop.com

The Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 DSP impresses with its robust audio quality, versatile connectivity, and innovative Virtual Reference Monitoring (VRM) feature, which enhances headphone mixing by simulating various room acoustics. While the VRM is a standout, its effectiveness can be limited by the lack of headphone calibration options. The unit's solid construction is marred slightly by sharp corners and protruding screws, potentially causing damage during transport. Installation is smooth, and the DSP-powered effects, including reverb and compression, add value. Overall, the Saffire PRO 24 DSP offers excellent performance and features for its price, making it a compelling choice for mobile musicians, provided they handle with care.

Was a cool interface till I switched my laptop

This interface has really cool features and software. It worked well on my 2011 Mac Book Pro. As is switched over to a PC laptop, I could not find any adapter to connect it to it. It also appears that there is a loose contact ant one of the inputs. I like the connectivity. Especially the two headphone outputs with separate volume control come in handy. The light pipe connector allows to extend this interface with a pre amp. I used a Presonus DigiMax 8 with it.

Good for price

That is a good interface for its price. I am not happy with the firewire latency and looking for a thunderbolt interface but other than this issue this is a very sufficient audio interface for this price range. 2 headphone preamps really great. Instrument preamps have pretty good headroom and satisfying. Not the best but definately is a good choice.

A

Very good, but there are always better options available

Sound quality is crisp though and there's almost nihil latency! The reason I gave it 4 stars is because it is great for personal use, but as soon as you need to perform live with multiple mic's attached, there might not be enough outputs for you to split the signal into a PA system. Personally, I think the default routing in MixControl is also quite silly, but maybe that's just me. Also, the power supply cable is very short.
