M-Audio Keystation Mk3 series MIDI controllers review

higherhz.com

The M-Audio Keystation 49 offers a no-frills, budget-friendly MIDI controller experience that keeps it simple and effective, perfect for beginners and those seeking a straightforward tool. The standout feature is its impressive software bundle, which includes Ableton Live Lite and MPC Beats, offering great value for money. However, the controller is let down by its limited assignable controls and basic functionality, lacking performance pads or advanced production tools. While its build is lightweight, the semi-weighted keys on larger models and synth-action keys on the 49-key version provide decent tactile response. Overall, it’s an excellent choice for those prioritizing simplicity and affordability.

Good to get you started

KS 49 is good keyboard to get you started with. This was originally my dads keyboard then mine. I used it for the basics and it did its job well. When I decided that music was going to be a permanent thing for me I upgraded to a Oxy 49. But I would give this keyboard five starts, it's solid and gets the job done.

“The M-Audio MIDI keyboard is another staple for any producer. It’s the go-to when testing out sampled instruments or playing out a rhythm. I have no piano training, so I rely more heavily on manually-drawing MIDI.
