Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Focusrite Scarlett Studio CM25 MkII Microphone.

Comparisons

  • The Scarlett CM25 MkII may be a rebranded MXL condenser mic; alternatives like the Suhr SM57 or Studio Projects B1 are recommended for better value.

    Source
  • NT1 reportedly offers a significant upgrade over the CM25, particularly in reducing "subtle noise" during commercial-grade recordings.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • The Focusrite Scarlett Bundle is priced at $200; however, individual purchases of the interface and separate mic might offer better quality for the same budget.

    Source
  • The price difference between the CM25 bundle and an NT1 with Scarlett 2i2 isn't substantial if additional accessories like a shock mount and pop filter are considered.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • While suitable for basic recording, the CM25 MkII might not excel in specialized applications; a dynamic mic like the SM57 is suggested for versatile use.

    Source
  • The CM25 is deemed adequate for voiceovers if the recording space is sufficiently quiet, though it may not suit high-end commercial jobs.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The CM25 MkII is a basic condenser mic; some users find it adequate for starting, but it doesn't stand out for any specific recording task.

It's great! ....for me

I'm a total noob in home vocal recording, so take my opinions with a grain of salt.

These came bundled with the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Studio Pack, and after ages of bad microphones that I've used, this is like the best of the best for me. It sounds really clear and I feel like I could use this in a more serious project any day of the week, at least to my noobish ears. Though I still have a lot to learn; I still have to hear what makes a more expensive microphone that much better than this one. I'd maybe say that this mic can be a little low output, and in the Scartlet 2i2 I have to dial up the gain a lot, almost a quarter left from max, but I don't know if that's normal. Aparently with the Shure SM7B that problem is worse because of the interface.

But anyways, if you're starting out or even if you're a little more experienced, I'd totally recommend using this mic! For me, it sounds great. Wonder if I'll still think the same once I'm more experienced, tho, hahaha

LITchrally no

Can't get a clean signal without the mic clipping. Mine might just be a broken unit at this point.

Perfect for a mix!

I got this with my interface, and using this mic in a mix it sounded perfect. When the "air" mode is on for this mic, it makes it better. Really happy that I have this.
