Only instance of Zakk playing this guitar is a video recorded in 1994, during Pride & Glory UK tour (Zakk Wylde Lovin Woman – acoustic).
Mark Knopfler purchased this guitar from Sound Stage Studio in Nashville, Tennessee, in May 2007. Knopfler tried both this guitar and a second Dove, which remains in his collection, during recording sessions for Piper to the end.
Q: "When did you got your first good steel-string?" A: "That wasn't until 1976 when I went to Gibson and did some shopping. I got my white ES-335 and a double-neck electric, but I also got a beautiful Gibson Dove, which I used for years. I still have that guitar, and it sounds fantastic. Its probably on all of our records."
Q: "The Dove famously appears on "Closer to the Heart" from 1977's A Farewell to Kings, correct?" A: "Right, it was the Dove plus a Gibson B-45 12-string."
"Universal Amphitheater Los Angeles, California 23 March 1994 The Rhythm, Country & Blues Concert
Playing 'Tomorrow Night' with Trisha Yearwood and a black Gibson acoustic Dove guitar"
Tim is using a vintage Gibson Dove with a Natural finish. Considering that the headstock is still in the prototype shape Gibson used to have, the guitar is probably from the early 1960s.
