Review: JBL 305P MkII Powered 5-Inch Two-Way Studio Monitors - postPerspective

postperspective.com

The JBL 305P MkII studio monitors deliver a surprisingly robust performance at an affordable price. Perfect for idea generation and casual listening, these monitors shine in environments where creativity is key. While they lack the detail required for final mixdowns, they excel in providing a reliable soundstage for composing on the fly. Their sleek design, coupled with TRS and XLR inputs, adds versatility, making them suitable for use as keyboard or drum machine monitors. However, don't expect them to replace high-end monitors for critical listening tasks. Overall, they offer great value for those looking to harness JBL's engineering prowess without breaking the bank.

JBL 305P MKII review: Bargain price meets great sound - All Things Gear

allthingsgear.com

The JBL 305P MkII studio monitors deliver excellent sound quality for their price, making them a great choice for budget-conscious producers. They feature detailed and accurate audio response and helpful EQ controls, although the bass can be somewhat lacking due to the size of the 5-inch woofers. While not ideal for larger studios without additional bass support, these monitors are perfect for small spaces or beginners. Overall, they stand out in their price range with their clear sound and affordability.

Studio monitors that works.

JBL 305p MkII is my first and only monitors I am still using for three years. It taught me along the way of mixing and mastering, and I really enjoy what it gives. Providing a decent amount of performances for studio works but agile enough for my daily consumption.

Don't get me wrong; this monitor's resolution wise wasn't as good as big boys like Genelecs or a Neumann, but I needed to choose between an HS5 and a 305p MkII when getting my first monitor. After some listen and hours of consideration at MusicBliss, I took the 305p MkII back home because it is honest on bad recordings and something with really bad sibilance yet decent enough for the work. It is a balance of being honest yet decently smooth so I wouldn't get ear fatigue too quickly (I'm looking at you, dry HS5s).

Imaging is considered great for a monitor in this price range, and the speaker itself is easy to drive (Decently loud with volume knob set at about 1000 to 0100 o'clock with Scarlett 2i2 Second Gen). However, it is unnecessary to play it loud as the resolution is good enough at low volumes. It takes some time for me to learn the speaker's character as it sounds a bit too bassy when I work with the speakers (More to problems related to room acoustic, not the speaker). The mids might be a bit coloured for some people or genre (Especially Classical and Musical, I really have some hard time with it).

Overall, it is a speaker to recommend for people just starting Audio Production.

These speakers have served me well.

I really do love this set of speakers. JBL has really done it with this one. The sound quality is AMAZING, and for a good, low price, too.
