The ADHD Guitarist: Joyo JF-12 Voodoo Octave Fuzz Review

adhdguitarist.blogspot.com

The Joyo JF-12 Voodoo Octave Fuzz offers a budget-friendly entry into the world of octave fuzz pedals, cloning the Foxx Tone Machine rather than the Octavia. It delivers versatile fuzz tones that work well with both humbuckers and single coils, and its switchable octave feature adds another layer of experimentation. However, the pedal doesn't stack well with other gain pedals and lacks responsiveness to picking dynamics. While it may not be a permanent fixture on your pedalboard, it's a fun option for those looking to experiment with fuzz sounds without breaking the bank. If early Smashing Pumpkins riffs are your jam, this pedal might be worth a look.

It's a great, low cost octave fuzz pedal.

With the Joyo Voodoo Octave you get a pretty sweet sounding fuzz pedal with the ability to go an octave up. The fuzz can go from harsh and hairy to warm and fuzzy. The octave can be kind of like a subtle Octavia on up to a synthy sort of sound. One great thing about the Joyo Voodoo Octave is the ability to use it has just a fuzz pedal since the octave is controlled by it's own footswitch.

Regardless what you have heard, this pedal rocks!

For a solid year and 4 months I have had this either on my touring board or IN my gig bag ready for the hotel room. It was a Christmas present "stocking stuffer" that my wife ordered on Amazon kind of last minute and I absolutely love it. The ability to go from straight up "RATISH" distortion to a very cool lower gain, mid scooped (thanks to the mid scooping switch on it) Octave up weirdo sound is awesome. You have the ability to turn the octave effect on and off while the gain is turned on so getting on planet Smashing Pumpkins isn't hard. BUY IT. It's worth its penny in the pocket price tag

Wanna try the octafuzz tone ?

The voodoo octave is a cheap octazver/fuzz pedal made by Joyo. Fuzz, tone and volume knobs are pretty common, but there is a little mid cut switch to get a "Muffer" tone and a fat sound. There's also 2 footswitches : on/off and octave, which make it more polyvalent. Personally I don't hear a "real fuzz" like Fuzz Face or Maestro, it's more a high distorsion. Basically, it permits to get 4 different kind of tone : classical or mid-cut and both avaible with or without octave up ! And i won't talk about variations with the fuzz knob, that's pretty effective. The octave sound can't be activated without fuzz and adds an octave up. A famous sound heard in Hendrix or Neil Young's records, for simple riffs or legendary solos, but don't try with too complex chords or it will turn into a real mash !! To conclude it's a good product if you want to test the octafuzz tone at a low price unlike vintage reissues (and even more with only vintage ones), however it will necessarily need to be replaced. It's a nice stuff to begin, but a bit too 'cold' compared to vintage records. (A little trick if you find it a bit too "synthetical" as i said : try to set a vintage drive before or after on in order to get a warmer sound ;)

Awesome if you swap caps polarity

This pedal has an issue, the in and out caps are the other way around and makes the octave effect less noticeable, it's an easy fix. The only other thing that bugs me about it's the mid cut switch, maybe it can be tweaked to be more usable

jimmy_bergmooser

Sounds Great

Sounds amazing if you know how to play with it. I have all three knobs around noon and the mid cut always on. Sounds best with single coil pickups around half volume.

dylan_hutto

Nice Fuzz

I really only use the mid cut switch because I like that Big Muff sound I get. Nice fuzz pedal, would recommend to a beginner.

jordan_windram

Whilst being a guitar pedal, works amazing on bass

The perfect bass fuzz tone, great for rage against the machine and audio slave

What You Need

Dripping with a static - rich fuzz, I like to dial the tone knob in a lot for a drone sound. The octave is more useful on frets past 12.
