Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Line 6 POD xt.

User experience

  • Owners find the POD xt Live bulky and heavy, noting that it uses AC current, which complicates finding replacement adapters.

    Source
  • Some owners find the POD xt Live easier to tweak and set up compared to more advanced models like the HD500 Live, which can be overwhelming.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • For firmware updates, download files offline and update via Line 6 Monkey by selecting "Update from File" without logging in.

    Source
  • To achieve optimal tones, start with a blank preset and set the output level to match a guitar's direct input into an amp.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The POD xt can be managed using third-party software like POD UI, supporting Windows 10+, Linux, and MacOS for modern editing functionality.

    Source
  • The Line 6 POD xt Live is known for its delay and modulation effects being standout features, even several years after its release.

    Source
  • Owners report the 'Monkey' and 'Gearbox' software can be flaky on Windows 7 and 10, impacting ease of use.

Critic Reviews

Line 6 PodXT

soundonsound.com

The Line 6 POD xt is a worthy successor to the original, enhancing amp modeling with improved dynamic response and a more comprehensive effects section. While USB drivers were missing at review, its user-friendly interface and superior guitar-specific effects make it a solid choice for versatile sound crafting. Despite some limitations with '60s clean tones, the POD xt delivers authentic clean amp models and robust overdriven sounds, catering to both studio and live settings. Overall, it's a significant upgrade that narrows the gap between digital modeling and real amps.

Line 6 PODxt Review

guitarmasterclass.net

The Line 6 PODxt impresses with its vast array of features, including 42 amp models and 60 effects, all at a reasonable price. While it delivers good sound, it requires effort to unlock its full potential, and its rock-oriented presets may not suit all styles. The unit is sturdy, versatile, and offers USB connectivity for easy patch sharing and editing. However, many features might go unused, and additional purchases are needed for full functionality, such as the wah and whammy effects. Overall, it's a strong contender for budget-conscious musicians seeking diverse tones.

old but good

Using podxt since 2010. I compared it to a lot of iOS apps and its still sounding better. Of course no substitute for a real amp but a nice piece of hardware that can still be used as a midi / usb interface to a Mac.

Versatile and functional sound modeler for the money

Lots of different pedals, amps, and other sound effects inside of the unit to approximate a certain sound you'd like. Highly functional- especially the tuner that's included. It can be overwhelming at first but after a few rounds of noodling around with the unit, it becomes intuitive to use. Great for studio work.

Amp modeling sounds great on keys

The screen no longer works, but I run the aux outs of my Ion into the Pod XT so I can mix the wet/dry signal manually live, rolling in the distortion when needed.

winnie_choy

Awesome

Covers almost all the bases with guitar sounds however is missing some modern amps.

Outdated but still handy

Second generation of Line 6's modeling solution Pretty versatile to get a lot of basic amp sounds. Some effects are workable, some sound clearly digital. It's really picky about its voltage.

konstantin_musik

A good alternative to an amp

The Pod is very versatile. It's perfect for me as i am living in an apartment building. Even on recordings, the Pod sounds good!
