Critic Reviews

Marshall ED-1

ovnilab.com

The Marshall ED-1 Edward Compressor Pedal offers crisp highs and a decent output boost, though some low-end loss is evident, comparable to other guitar compressors. Its VCA-based design provides a clear, hard sound, and the "emphasis" knob, while subtle, adds versatility. The pedal is rugged and reasonably priced, but noise increases with extreme settings. Bypass quality is inconsistent, but overall, it's a fair value for guitarists who can tolerate some low-end reduction.

Marshall ED-1 Edward Compressor – MusicPlayers.com

musicplayers.com

The Marshall ED-1 Edward Compressor impresses with its clean, warm sustain on low-output single-coil guitars, offering smooth compression and versatile tonal control. However, it falters with high-output humbuckers, causing undesirable overdrive and signal breakup. While easy to use with solid documentation and sturdy build, visibility issues with the chrome knobs and fading markings detract from usability. At $70, it sits comfortably in the mid-range market, but prospective buyers should test compatibility with their guitar setups due to its sensitivity to input levels. Overall, a solid choice for specific needs, but not without flaws.

Decently operating Comp

It does what you expect from a compressor, but doesn't squish the sound too much. The Hi-Lo emphasis control is very nice to have because it offers the possibility to use it as a treble or bass boost or anything in between. Makes it a very unique pedal. These series of marshall pedals deserve more attention, because they are very affordable on the used market and offer good quality.
