Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Mooer Pure Octaver.

Features and functionality

  • The pedal allows control of the sub and upper octaves' volumes separately, but both octaves exhibit a warbling effect that can sound out of tune.

Use cases and applications

  • Some users employ the pedal for an artificial, harsh octave sound, suitable for overdriven synth/organ tones in styles like The Black Keys.

    Source

User experience

  • Despite tracking being fine, the pedal's octave up is preferred for its artificial character, while the octave down is criticized for a "bad bass" tone.

Microtonal? and a Powernoise pedal?

This review might be a dealbreaker for you if you want a real pure octaves! for some reason the "pure" this claims to be, is not so pure. The settings are cents off from the actual notes which makes the output microtonal and detuned.

But this is a perfect octaver to put detuned octave layers on your synths or electronic drums imo, which i later tried out and am using only for that purpose now. (either it really is just "unpure" octave or i bought a faulty pedal.)

It has a wetness and dryness knobs which are helpful to explore and the center knob clicks on the slots which makes it beginner friendly.

For me, this pedal is a experimentalist's synth detune octaver. And not suitable for rock guitars(tho i think it would fit into shoegaze).

As a harsh noise/feedback/powernoise perspective, the detuneness creates a very weird detuned messy drone in here with pal 50hz electricity. That is in my opinion, the only good use for this pedal.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

+1+2 setting, 70ish wet to a analogue electronic drum -> mixer feedback loop (industrial powernoise).

Better than you'd expect.

For a mini pedal on a budget ... it is pretty spectacular. Are there better octave pedals out there? Yes? But not for the financial cost or the space on your pedal board's real-estate. I love it! Place it on the board as early as tou can in the chain and enjoy the decent, intuitive, octave (up and down) generation. I have third in my signal chain right after my tuner and compressor!
