Compact Fuzz with Vintage Vibes
The MXR Classic 108 Fuzz Mini is a pint-sized powerhouse that packs a serious punch. In our tests, we were immediately impressed by its solid build – it's MXR, after all. The compact chassis is a godsend for cramped pedalboards, and we appreciated the included power supply – a nice touch.
We found the controls straightforward, with the buffer switch being the star of the show. This feature dramatically alters the pedal's behavior, allowing for seamless integration with wahs and expanding its versatility in your signal chain. However, we did miss having a dedicated tone control or bias adjustment.
Sound-wise, this little guy delivers classic fuzz tones in spades. With the buffer off, you get that nice spitty, sputtery silicon fuzz that's perfect for nailing those Hendrix-esque sounds. Flip the buffer on, and you're treated to a smoother, more germanium-like fuzz with improved clarity. We were impressed by the huge range of sounds available just by tweaking your guitar's volume knob.
That said, it's not the most versatile fuzz out there. We found the fuzz control to be a bit finicky, with only the last bit of the sweep being truly usable. It also doesn't clean up quite as nicely as some germanium fuzzes we've tried.
For us, the MXR Classic 108 Fuzz Mini is a great choice for players seeking vintage fuzz tones in a compact, reliable package. It's particularly well-suited for classic rock and blues enthusiasts. However, if you're after extreme fuzz textures or need more tone-shaping options, you might want to look elsewhere.

Comparisons

Described as a silicon Fuzz Face with a buffer, differing from the Jimi Hendrix signature Fuzz Face by being less smooth and more fizzy.
Source -
The mini version is slightly brighter and has a bit more gain compared to the original, which is woolier.
Source -
This pedal sounds nearly identical to the Analogman BC108 Fuzz Face clone across all knob positions but is significantly more affordable.
Source
Use cases and applications
-
When used with the buffer on, fuzz at minimum, and volume at maximum, the pedal effectively acts as a delicious boost.
Source -
Ideal for achieving Hendrix-like tones in a rock setup that includes overdrive for ACDC and modern distortion for metal.
Source -
Using the pedal through a dirty channel, especially on Orange amps, can result in a muddy tone, particularly with neck pickups on guitars like Telecasters and Ibanez RGs.

Warm and wooly
Classic fuzz tones with warm and wooly tone, lots of output and a switchable buffer so you can adapt it nicely to every position on your board. Really like it with the volume knob of a P90 rolled back and in front of a clean amp!
