    Source
  • The Blue Box has been noted to sound particularly large when paired with a Big Muff, though it requires nearly maxed volume for unity in certain models.

    Source

    Source

User experience

  • Owners report that using the neck pickup and rolling back the tone control can improve tracking, albeit at the expense of some excitement.

    Source
  • Some users report that even when the octave is dialed out, it can still bleed through the amp, which can be unwanted if only distortion/fuzz is desired.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Owners have noted that a used MXR Blue Box can be found for around $50 at Guitar Center, making it a low-risk investment for those curious about its sound.

fuzzzz

I was made aware of this octave fuzz pedal by Rowland S. Howard. It sounds like an evil motorbike about to explode. It's groovy. Sonic Youth & Dinosaur Jr. think so too.

Listed on Reverb.com by Eclectic Sounds in December 2023.

This is Frank Zappa's 1975 MXR Blue Box with Zappa's ICA sticker and was sold to engineer / musician John Neff in 1997 by Dweezil Zappa at the Zappa compound in Laurel Canyon. John brought his studio partner / filmmaker David Lynch. David bought a projector and John got the Blue Box. As a long time friend of John's, Eclectic Sounds sold many studio pieces for John's retirement. We have only a few of his pieces left and this Blue Box will be one of the last ones. We have a couple other Frank pieces coming so check back to our store eclsounds.
