Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Neewer NW-700.

Features and functionality

  • The Neewer NW-700 lacks a proper audio interface, leading to potential audio quality issues without additional investment in a better interface.

    Source
  • Users note that the Arturia Minifuse 1 interface is preferred for single mic setups over the Behringer 204HD, which is suited for multiple mic scenarios.

    Source
  • The Mackie EM-91C XLR mic is highlighted for its build quality improvements, specifically its reduced resonance compared to the NW-700.

    Source
  • A phantom power supply is essential, but routing directly to the motherboard often results in poor sound quality without an external audio interface.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Suggested alternatives include the Behringer XM8500, which is recommended for beginners as a more reliable setup with a Scarlett Solo 2nd gen interface.

    Source
  • The AT2035 is favored over the AT4040 due to smoother performance, while the AT4033a is recommended over the AT4040 for similar pricing and better quality.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The NW-700 is considered adequate for casual use, such as live streaming, but is deemed insufficient for professional, paying gigs.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Owners emphasize investing in a quality audio interface over an expensive microphone if budget constraints exist.

    Source

User experience

  • Users with limited budgets find the NW-700 a decent starting point, but often express the desire to upgrade when pursuing professional opportunities.

    Source
  • The NW-700's updated 2021 version is noted for improved sound quality compared to earlier models, as experienced by long-term users.

    Source
  • Some owners find the NW-700 surprisingly satisfactory for its price, despite not meeting the standards of $100+ microphones.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • Bandlab/Cakewalk is suggested as a free DAW alternative to Audacity, offering multi-track capabilities and support for additional plugins.

    Source
  • Audacity may not enhance performance with this mic after adjusting settings, indicating potential compatibility or optimization issues.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Users report that adjusting the microphone boost in Windows to 0.0dB and ensuring the correct speaking side can significantly affect sound clarity.

Great microphone for the price!

I gave the Neewer NW-700 four stars. This microphone was the first microphone I had ever purchased when I was starting out creating music. Being the proud user of several more high-end mics today, I thought I would dig the microphone out of my storage and see how the $15 mic stood against more standard mics such as the the Shure SM58 and SM7B. The NW-700 is a small-diaphragm condenser mic with a focus on the high end. The 700 captures a range which with good mixing can sound like that of a higher end microphone. The purchase comes with a stand and pop filter which do not appear cheap. The pop filter is perfect for any other microphone and the stand is adjustable and very handy for a bedroom studio. The one star off is mainly because, a $15 condenser mic can only offer so much. While you can expect crisp highs, the mic demands a thorough mix for any warmer or low-end vocals. In conclusion, this mic is still one I would be happy to use on the fly or for high backing vocals.

surprising quality for such a cheap product

i was skeptical when i first bought this, solely because of the price. sure, its no studio quality mic, but it does the job. EQ vox right and add the correct effects and you can get it to sound pretty close to what you may have wanted in a bit more expensive mic. must buy if you're on a budget

You Get What You Pay For

Great price, but you really get what you pay for. It is cheap and sounds cheap when used to record vocals at least. I have not tried to record any instruments with it. Would not be terrible to record a demo, but when you get past that I would upgrade to a better mic.

dylansalesss

Amazing for the price!

I always make songs with this Mic, When I was starting off as an artist I was looking for a budget condenser microphone that sounded great with my AI and this is the one!

sorcerersupreme

So much better than my cheap USB mic!

I used a cheap Fifine usb Mic for a while, before realizing how bad it was. I bought this, and although cheap, it really got the job done while my band was recording their first album.

cloudtapes

Not bad for the price.

It'll get you started. Once you start comparing it to more expensive mics, it lacks both the high and low end ability.

simpler_music

Great

This mic is a pretty great deal, I paid $50 for the mic and it came with a decks mount

kyriam

No low end.

Though it's really, really cheap, this mic just doesn't sound good.
