Comparisons

  • M3’s soundstage is nearly comparable to HD598’s, with a crisper front line, though slightly muddier overall.

    Source
  • The M2 offers cleaner sound clarity compared to the M4, both in wired and wireless modes.

    Source
  • Compared to the Audio-Technica M50x, the MOMENTUM 2 offers better comfort with a more secure fit, especially when moving around.

    Source
  • Compared to the Bowers & Wilkins PX, the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 2 has better comfort and a more consistent seal, despite both having noise cancellation always on.

Features and functionality

  • M4's controls are clearer and avoid accidental ANC activation, unlike the older models.

    Source
  • The M4's app enables EQ customization and personalized sound profiles, enhancing user experience significantly.

    Source
  • M3’s button interface includes a battery announcement feature by holding the play-pause button, a convenience absent in the M2.

    Source
  • The headband could use more padding, as it can leave a groove on the user's head after prolonged use.

    Source
  • M3's USB-C charging allows simultaneous playback with ANC on, whereas the M2 does not support charging and playing simultaneously over Bluetooth.

    Source
  • M3’s auto-pause feature can unintentionally activate when sitting or turning quickly, which might be annoying in active use.

    Source
  • Noise cancellation is subtle, avoiding the "sucking" sensation common in other models, but it struggles with uneven motion like bumpy bus rides.

    Source

User experience

  • M4's newer material avoids grease accumulation and odor issues that the M2's leather cups experienced.

    Source
  • M4 users report intermittent automatic power cycling, which can be triggered by minimal movement detection.

    Source
  • M3’s larger earcups eliminate hot-spots experienced with M2 after prolonged use, improving long-term comfort.

    Source
  • The Bluetooth connection can occasionally stutter and requires a power cycle or reconnection to resolve.

    Source

Build quality

  • The M4's smaller ear cups allow for comfortable neck placement without pressing against the neck.

    Source
  • The M2’s leather is thicker and feels more durable than the M3’s, suggesting it may withstand rough travel environments better.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Owners suggest M2 should be priced around $130-$140 for its features, while M3 could be fairly valued at $330, despite the MSRP difference.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The headphones are ideal for travel, providing a good seal and adequate noise reduction on flights, though the ANC may not handle public transport bumps well.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Using #11 o-rings can help tighten the ear cup adjustments that tend to become loose over time.

Critic Reviews

Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 On-Ear/HD1 On-Ear Review - RTINGS.com

rtings.com

The Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 On-Ear headphones offer a sturdy build with decent sound, but they're not without flaws. Their slightly uneven sound profile might not satisfy critical listeners, and their mediocre noise isolation makes them less ideal for noisy environments. While they are lightweight and portable, their comfort leaves something to be desired, particularly for long listening sessions. Additionally, sound leakage could be an issue in quiet spaces. They shine in their solid audio reproduction and durable design but fall short in versatility and comfort compared to competitors. Overall, a mixed bag for those prioritizing style and build over sonic perfection.

Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 On-ear review | What Hi-Fi?

whathifi.com

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM On-Ear 2 headphones deliver a solid, detailed, and forgiving sound, characterized by a good amount of low end and an attractive design. They excel in providing a pleasant listening experience with a focus on warmth and texture. However, they might not be everyone's cup of tea due to their slightly bass-heavy balance, and they could benefit from more dynamic and rhythmic capabilities. While they may not match the all-around performance of some competitors, such as the Philips Fidelio M1MKII, they remain a strong choice for those prioritizing a robust and enjoyable sound.

Perfect Headphones

I have been using these as my main headphones for over a year and a half now and the battery life is long, the Bluetooth is perfect, the buttons work fine, the audio is high quality (even when playing DACs) and the noise cancelling is perfect. The only reason why its getting 4 stars is because the headphone muffs are hard to find replacements for, the audio cable (3.55mm to 2.5mm) needs notches on the 2.5mm side to lock into your headphones, making it really hard to find cheap replacements.

Astonishingly Good

After realising the state of my Bose QC Noise-Cancelling headphones, I wanted to try something a bit different, and boy, these Momentum 2 Over-ear headphones shine with clarity, bottom end warmth and an expansive sound to match. Throw in the fact that they sound so so close to the same level in wireless mode and you will find it hard to wear anything else afterwards. Super comfortable, extemely practical, with some nice touches such as play control via the switches on the right speaker. The best headphones I've had to date.
