Ultimate Ears UE5 Pro Review — Headfonics

headfonics.com

The Ultimate Ears UE5 Pro in-ear monitors deliver a commendable entry-level experience with a solid bass response and sparkling treble, although the treble can be a bit hot. Priced at $549, they offer a customizable fit and switchable faceplates, which are great for personalization. However, the design options are somewhat limited, particularly in shell finish choices. The UE5 Pro is easy to drive and provides good isolation, making it suitable for stage performers. The IPX connector system is a welcome feature, offering durability and ease of use. Overall, these IEMs are a worthwhile investment for those seeking quality sound and customizability at a reasonable price.

According to Fenton, Neil Tennant and three backup vocalists sing through Shure SM58 capsules on the new UHFR wireless systems. For in-ear monitors, Tennant has two pairs of Ultimate E5s; all the IEM systems are Sennheiser G3s. Chris Lowe prefers Sony headphones and a Shure hardwire system for parts of the show, Fenton continues, but mainly relies on his pair of L-Acoustics MTD108P near-fill monitors, which sound amazing.

"While everyone in the band uses wedges, Alanis prefers in-ear monitors (IEMs). 'She uses Ultimate Ears UE-5s,' says [monitor engineer Glen] Collett. 'Alanis only has her vocals in her mix. She sings very quietly. She likes the band very close to her so a lot of the stage volume bleeds into the mic, so you can't put anything else in there without it getting very messy.'"

This time out, I did put my foot down a bit by insisting everyone wear the same-style molds. We got Josh a set from every manufacturer and what he picked was the choice for everybody. In this case, it’s Ultimate Ears UE-5s. And I must say I have been extremely happy thus far. They sound great and in terms of standing behind their product, Ultimate Ears is simply amazing. Any problems I’ve had and parts, replacements or repairs I’ve needed, they always handle it quickly and without any issues.
