Tube-like distortion pedal
This is a permanent fixture in my pedalboard. This is essentially a Maxon SD-9 with better controls. The sweep on the gain knob is a lot more linear than the original Maxon. I don't use this as a distortion pedal, rather I use it as an overdrive. It's not at all transparent like the Jan Ray or ODR-1 or even the OCD (on low settings) and it will change your tone, but in a good way in my opinion. The distorted tones coming out of it don't sound like any other overdrive or distortion. It is very unique. It is hard to describe but imagine an old glassy Fender amp with a distortion in front it. That's what it sounds like.

Vemuram reverse engineered Michael Landau's Maxon SD-9 to come up with the design of the Butter Machine. They took the best qualities of the SD-9 and added features that Michael Landau requested. The Butter Machine is almost a permanent fixture in my main pedalboard.
