The Fender Super Reverb 45-watt tube combo guitar amplifier was offered in a silverface finish between 1968 and 1982, although some early silverface finished units still had blackface circuitry. Well-known for its scooped mids, the Super Reverb features the same design as the Fender Super, but with the addition of built-in reverb and tremolo effects as well as four 10" speakers. Famous Super Reverb players include Johnny Marr, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robben Ford, and Derek Trucks.

Great clean amp and pedal platform

My Super Reverb is a '73. The Silverface units are not bad at all and can be had cheaper than a Blackface, even the ones with the exact same circuit. If you really want a Blackface, any competent tech would be able to easily convert a Silverface circuit to a Blackface circut as well. The amp I decided on was the Super Reverb because it's not nearly as loud as a Twin Reverb and does not have nearly as much headroom either. Where the Twin Reverb or even the Deluxe Reverb would start compressing around 6 on the volume knob, the Super Reverb begins compressing at 3, at which point it's quieter than the Deluxe Reverb as well (although it gets much louder really quickly). At 3, the volume is acceptable for home use. At 8, it has more than enough volume for a concert hall. The clean tone from the Super Reverb is unmatched in my opinion. What makes the Super Reverb my favorite of the old Fenders is the alnico speakers have a very distinct sound, with extra warmth and definition that ceramic speakers will never obtain, making them ideal for cleaner sounds. Now that said, I'm not always a cleaner player. Fortunately, the Super Reverb is also a great pedal platform. Most overdrives work nicely with the Super Reverb, and with the modern overdrive pedals available, I can easily get a Marshall OD sound from my Super Reverb.
