Critic Reviews

AKG Acoustics K 701 headphones | Stereophile.com

stereophile.com

The AKG Acoustics K701 headphones deliver a sophisticated auditory experience, marked by their comfort and detailed sound reproduction. Their unique design, including a bi-wiring system and Varimotion transducer, contributes to an impressive auditory clarity that can elevate your listening sessions. However, they do have a learning curve; they initially sound edgy until adequately broken in, requiring hundreds of hours of use to reach their full potential. Additionally, their open-back design might not be suitable for all environments, as sound leakage can be an issue. While ideal for studio work and critical listening, casual users may find them less practical. Overall, the K701s are a worthy investment for serious headphone enthusiasts, but not without some caveats.

positive

AKG K701 Review - RTINGS.com

rtings.com

The AKG K701 headphones shine in sound quality and comfort, delivering an immersive listening experience ideal for critical audio tasks. However, their open-back design leads to poor isolation and significant sound leakage, making them unsuitable for public or noisy environments. Additionally, the bulky construction lacks portability, and the absence of a detachable cable is a notable drawback. For those prioritizing audio fidelity and comfort over versatility, the K701 is a compelling choice, but casual users may find them less practical.

AKG K701 Headphones A New Reference Review By Phil Gold

enjoythemusic.com

The AKG K701 headphones redefine high-end listening with their superb comfort and balanced sound. Their innovative design promises a natural, immersive experience, making them a top choice for audiophiles. However, they do require an extensive break-in period and may not have the visceral punch some listeners crave. While they excel across various genres, those seeking deep bass might find them lacking compared to competitors. Overall, the K701 impresses with its clarity and versatility, solidifying its place as a formidable contender in the headphone market.

NOT FLAT

Comfy. great for long sessions. Not even close to flat frequency response. However can be flattened with an plugin on your monitoring chain. Great for mixing, but not for anything serious. Highs out of the box are harsh and fatiguing. Lows/bass are good but could be better. Low mids aren't even close to reality.
