Description

Introducing the Boss OC-5 Octave, a new-age addition to Boss's rich legacy of octave pedals. A fusion of classic Boss octave tones and cutting-edge tracking technologies, the OC-5 sets the bar high for octave pedal performance. The Vintage mode offers a precise recreation of the iconic mono OC-2 from 1982, while the Poly mode introduces a plethora of enhancements for extended-range playing.

The OC-5 is powered by Boss's latest real-time processing technologies, delivering a clean, accurate performance without any latency. It provides a wider range and greater polyphonic capabilities than its predecessors, making it your go-to octave pedal for every requirement.

In the Vintage mode, the OC-5 brings you the iconic mono sound of the OC-2, coupled with an improved response thanks to Boss's advanced tracking engine. The Poly mode, on the other hand, allows you to play full chords with octave effects. The variable Range knob restricts the effect to the lower notes on your instrument, perfect for creating octave bass lines alongside normal chords and melodies in the higher registers.

With the addition of an octave-up feature, a span of three octaves is now available for you to explore and create unique sounds. Use the octave-up effect on its own for faux 12-string sounds and unique solo tones, or blend it with the octave-down effects for extended chord voicings and super-fat leads.

Key Features:

  • Latest tracking technologies for accurate response and natural feel with no latency
  • Vintage mode reproduces the mono sound of the original OC-2
  • Poly mode for chord playing
  • Octave-up effect for faux 12-string sounds and unique solo tones
  • Guitar/Bass switch optimizes the sound engine
  • Direct out for wet/dry setups
  • Range knob sets the note range where the effect is applied
  • Lowest Range setting in Poly mode applies the octave effect to only the lowest note in a chord
  • Mode switch optimizes the sound engine for guitar or bass
  • Direct out for wet/dry setups
  • BOSS five-year warranty

Critic Reviews

Boss OC-5 Octave review | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

The Boss OC-5 Octave is a standout in the octave pedal realm, delivering impressive tracking and low latency, making it a versatile choice for guitarists and bassists alike. With its dual modes—Vintage for classic tones and Poly for richer textures—this pedal expands its functionality beyond simple octave effects. While it may benefit from clearer settings guidance, it’s hard to fault its performance or build quality. The OC-5 is essential for those looking to enhance their sound with depth and clarity.

positive

Boss OC-5 Octave Review | GuitarPlayer

guitarplayer.com

The Boss OC-5 Octave pedal shines with its fast, accurate tracking and a valuable +1 octave control, making it a standout in Boss's lineup. While the absence of a Drive mode may disappoint some OC-3 fans, the tonal quality of the suboctave effects is impressive and lush. However, the +1 octave can be subtle on its own, often requiring a dirt box to bring it to life. Ultimately, the OC-5 offers a cleaner layout and a versatile performance that should satisfy most players looking for rich octave sounds.

BOSS OC-5 Octave Pedal | REVIEW - Guitar Interactive Magazine

guitarinteractivemagazine.com

The Boss OC-5 Octave pedal successfully merges classic and modern octave effects, offering both monophonic and polyphonic modes that are versatile for any guitarist. Its standout feature is the ability to isolate ranges, allowing players to creatively blend effects without losing clarity. Tracking is impressive, handling everything from dense chords to rapid runs seamlessly. However, while it excels in function, some may find the learning curve steep if they're new to octave effects. Overall, the OC-5 is a powerful addition to any pedalboard, delivering depth and character to your sound.

Good, versatile Octave pedal

This is the modern version of the legendary Boss OC-2 pedal. Although it does offer way more settings than the OC-2, I sometimes feel that the tracking can be a bit wonky whenever you're pushing this pedal to it's limits.

Still a solid, versatile octave pedal.
