Chandler Limited: Germ 500 MKII Pre Amp (500-series) | Tape Op Magazine | Longform candid interviews with music producers and audio engineers covering mixing, mastering, recording and music production.

tapeop.com

The Chandler Limited Germ 500 MkII preamp is a stellar blend of vintage charm and modern versatility. Praised for its ability to produce tones ranging from clean and thick to saturated and gritty, it excels across various instruments, especially drums, guitars, and bass. The interaction between gain and feedback controls offers a palette of sonic options, reminiscent of classic tape warmth. While the preamp shines in adding rich character without sacrificing clarity, its standout feature is the "Thick" control, which enhances low frequencies. Though it's a bit niche with a price to match, for those seeking vintage-inspired sound with modern flexibility, this preamp is a worthy addition to any 500-series rack.

My go-to guitar pre amp.

My go-to guitar pre amp. The color and sound of this thing is incredible. Sometimes ill even use the pair of these I have as a preamp for my moog voyager, again the sound is incredible. One of the most colored pre amps I have ever heard tbh, not a transparent preamp.

jimmarchi1

While I love the germanium tone control EQ, these pres are way too colored for my liking.

olleyollet

see for me the color is made to match my gibson and meet in heaven lol. However, for most applications the color is way too much. As I said on of the most colored pre amps I have ever heard.
