great, long lasting strings

Very good strings, don't have break in period

nicholas_spevak

Extremely long lasting

I exclusively use NYXL strings, while they cost a bit more they last a long time, I can go months with the same set (although I usually change before shows and recordings anyway) and it still retains its freshness. I like to use 11's because while I'm tuned to standard, I prefer the boost in tone that I get from slightly heavier strings. I use an extra large NYXL .70 single for the low b instead of getting a traditional 7 string pack.

Clarity

I use these on my main Telecaster and main Strat tuned to standard and Eb standard respectively for clarity and punch. These strings take a thrashing and stay bright and chimey for weeks of constant playing.

metal_messiah

This is the only other set I'll use

I also use these strings on my guitars along with a heavier A string & heavier E string. Gotta have them heavier strings for palm muting and a lower sound.

In a detailed interview with guitarguitar, Ian Thornley, the renowned singer and guitarist, explicitly mentions his preference for using D'Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Medium Electric Guitar Strings (11-49) on guitars tuned a half step down. Thornley describes the strings as feeling similar to tens at the standard 440 Hz concert pitch, highlighting his transition over the years to lighter strings for their balance of flexibility and clarity in chords. He contrasts his current choice with his past preference for heavier sets, noting, "I’ve discovered that a half step down with elevens...it’s got the right amount of...I can still shake the note and bend it as far as I want, but I can still hustle. If I play a nice chord, I can hear all the notes in it." This insight from Thornley not only confirms his use of the specified strings but also sheds light on his evolving approach to guitar tone and playability.
