    Source

Versatile High Gain Goodness

The Fuzz War is intense. The sheer amount of gain on tap is unreal. It is a take no prisoners wall of sound. And that is the reason I love it.

The controls will look familiar to anyone that has a 3 knob fuzz pedal; volume, fuzz and tone.

First thing you’ll notice upon plugging it in is that it is a loud pedal. Start at zero and slowly roll up unless you want to blow out some windows.

Now for the Fuzz. It sounds so gnarly and aggressive anywhere past about noon. But to my ears, it doesn’t sound too squishy with my setup the way some other fuzz pedals have in the past. You get a very dynamic sounding fuzz that just can’t beat.

The tone knob has a really wide range on this pedal and I have to say that while my favorite is over the top fuzz, the tone maxed out sounds cool while rolling back on the fuzz. You get the sound of a small watt blown practice amp that can work well for classic rock tones.

I’ve had this pedal for years, and sometimes the foot switch hasn’t engaged when clicked. It is a pretty infrequent occurrence and Death By Audio have a lifetime guarantee, so if it ever becomes more problematic I’ll send it in for repairs. The only thing I actively dislike about the pedal is the large footprint takes up too much real estate on my pedalboard. It’s still worth the space, and it does have top-mounted input and output jacks to save a little space.

All things considered, I absolutely recommend this to someone looking for a versatile fuzz that can do extremely high gain.

A truly outstanding fuzz for garage/psych/stoner rock

The Death By Audio Fuzz War is unlike any other fuzz in my arsenal. The range of tones available in each knob's sweep is truly amazing, allowing for a wide range of soundscapes to be crafted. Like any pedal, there are certainly sweet spots where this pedal truly sings. For example, I prefer to set the tone around 9 O'clock whilst keeping the volume down low.

Loud and unruly -- exactly what you want in a fuzz pedal

I bought this pedal to put in front of my Rockerverb for playing stoner/doom/sludge. The fuzz knob changes the tone from an overdrive (at 8 o'clock) to distortion (noon) to all out unruly fuzz (dimed). The tone knob has a HUGE sweep, and is capable of producing a ton of different EQ settings.

The Fuzz War sound best with the pedal volume pretty high, so this isn't a great pedal if you like to play at home with other people around. The volume also plays a big role in the tone, so dialing this pedal in takes a little bit or work, but if you like big, sludgy fuzz, this pedal is perfect. It does everything I wish my Big Muff did.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

I set mine with the fuzz at 100%, the volume at 60%, and the tone 60%. Perfect doom/stoner tone!

Death by fuzz

I played this in combination with a Fender MIM Jazzbass and a 130W Fender Bassman Head. So good! I have used some other fuzz pedals, but espacially for bass this is the one i would recommend to every one who thinks of using fuzz on their bass because, other than other fuzz pedals, this one does not cut the low frequencies and therefore is the best fuzz for bass I know.

joekeeling

sick fuzz!

One of the best muff variants money can buy! The tone control is quite different providing a more interesting filter than a standard muff with way more points of usable range which also changes with varying degrees of gain.

The master of all fuzz pedals

Some people describe this pedal as an insane and over the top level of fuzz, I however feel that it has unbelievable clarity, especially when playing chords, and is extremely versatile with the tone control.

xaqary

Tom nailed it. Crazy versatile pedal, way more than a "decimation" Fuzz Pedal

Rarely do you find a pedal that can do as much as this for the dollar. Everything from a telophonic mid only sounds to rich textures from fat to thin, brutal to smooth but smashed, etc.

That & one of my favorite venues I've ever...

+good people behind these pedals. That matters.k

Best Fuzz Pedal

This is one of the best (for me the best one) fuzz pedals you'll ever have. Unbelievable what you can do with it and the plus it's very robust. Also Death by Audio Effects guys are amazing in the case you need help. Definitely a must have!
