Description

Introducing the 1959 Epiphone Coronet, a solid body guitar that stands out from Epiphone's typical archtop designs. This instrument was one of the first to emerge after Gibson's acquisition of Epiphone, and it quickly caught the attention of legendary musicians like Kurt Cobain and Johnny Marr. The Coronet's body shape is distinctive, reflecting the bold aesthetic of Epiphone's solidbody era. One of its defining features is the evolution from the Symmetric body to the more recognised Asymmetric design. This shift marked a significant departure from the Gibson-style open book headstock, giving way to Epiphone's signature "Batwing" 6-in-line headstock design. The batwing headstock and asymmetric body design make this guitar a standout piece for any collection.

Key Features:

  • Solid body design
  • Unique Asymmetric body shape
  • Distinctive "Batwing" 6-in-line headstock
  • Popular choice among renowned musicians
  • Part of Epiphone's historic solidbody era
  • Available with a vibrato option

This is Vigilante's primary and main guitar, which he uses practically everywhere. Epiphone confirms his use of this guitar in this post saying:

The band just kicked off their U.S. tour in support of their new record, Lex Hives, and guitarist Vigilante Carlstroem broke out a vintage 1959 Epiphone Coronet as a special treat for the 107.7 fans.

The guitar was featured in 2021 Premier Guitar rig rundown

The band has several rigs situated across the globe with varying differences. However, for Vigilante Carlstroem this early 1959 Epiphone Coronet never leaves his side and tours everywhere. He’s had the stripped-down, rock-’n’-roll machine for 20 years, but when he first acquired the Epi it was “in fucking mint condition.” Prior to owning this one, he fell for its shape and vibe in the form of the similar (3-pickup) Epiphone Crestwood Deluxe.

The latest Coronet is once again made in the USA and features the same symmetrical double cutaway mahogany body shape, three-on-a-side headstock shape, “Bikini” headstock badge, and pickguard shape as the earliest versions from 1958-1959, and includes a few modern improvements, including a slightly wider (1.695”) nut width and a comfortable SlimTaper™ neck profile, a slightly slimmer (1.375") body depth for better balance and lighter weight, a Graph Tech® nut, and a single P-90 Soapbar pickup. Original USA-made Coronets have been played by everyone from Jimi Hendrix and Steve Marriott to Johnny Marr and Marshall Crenshaw.
