Critic Reviews

Epiphone Les Paul Junior Review: Love at Second Sight? - The Blogging Musician

adamharkus.com

The Epiphone Les Paul Junior might look promising, but it falls short in execution. Initially criticized for its unwieldy neck and poor build quality, it was deemed a disappointment next to competitors like Fender's low-end offerings. While the 2022 model showed improvements in finish and tuning stability, playability issues persisted, with a stiff feel and lackluster versatility, especially for clean tones. Though touted as affordable, its performance and quality control leave much to be desired, making it a gamble compared to more reliable alternatives. Ultimately, it fails to deliver the expected gig-ready simplicity and Gibson-like experience.

negative

Les Paul Junior Review: The humbucker version sounds like a typical mid-range Epiphone pickup. | Epiphone | Electric Guitars | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

ultimate-guitar.com

The Epiphone Les Paul Junior is a no-frills guitar that excels in delivering classic rock and blues tones, with its single humbucker and straightforward design. While the sound is warm and full, it can become muddy with clean tones, limiting its versatility for heavier genres. The instrument is well-built and dependable, making it suitable for home practice or as a backup for live gigs. However, the stock pickups and tuners may prompt players to consider upgrades, potentially doubling the investment. Overall, it's a solid choice for those seeking a budget-friendly, classic rock guitar, but it may not satisfy those looking for a more refined or versatile sound.

I like it

Was my first electric guitar I got secondhand from my uncle, it's comfortable+sounds really good.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Any overdrive pedal sounds great with it+high gain works great with it too

Fun little guitar

Picked it up as a beater for writing and I haven't looked back. Pickup is pretty hot, and pairs well with my Orange amp. I'm a sucker for the tone control even though it's an on off switch, because it changes a bright lead tone into a thick fuzzy chord tone. Neck is surprisingly nice, though gloss. Frets are leveled and cmfy, and it has a sick look to it n all black.

rriggs2005

Good sound, balanced, easy to set up.

I got mine second hand from an (at the time) family friend, and it was in seemingly good condition. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that he had completely trashed it. The wiring was disconnected, the tone knob was sunken into the guitar, and the nut for it was missing. After some work, I was able to get it mostly back together, although I never got to plug it in. I am sure it was the way he handled the guitar, and not the guitar itself.

First Electric

This was my first electric guitar ever. I learned so many songs on this guitar including my first fingerstyle song, Blackbird, and my first solo, I Saw Her Standing There. Unfortunately I sold this guitar for a new Epiphone that I ended up selling as well a few years later. I now wish I had kept this guitar as a piece of my musical history. It was a great starter guitar, introducing me to that sweet sound of humbuckers. I would definitely recommend this as a first guitar, and if you've had one for a while, I suggest you hold on to it for future reference to your early years of playing guitar.

Nice guitar for some pop-punky stuff.

The first real guitar I bought. I got a white one with a black pickguard that had some modding from eBay. The pickup sounds nice, quite good for pop-punk stuff or a little Nirvana. It's great for power chords and bar chords. The clean tone is very nice, but fairly standard for mid-range humbuckers. Neck is nice, build is nice, but a few strings hold tuning very poorly. I don't mind though, but I imagine some would.

Used to be my #1, now used as a secondary guitar for songs in half-step-down tuning. Got this second-hand from a guitar shop owner near my house who advertised it on Craigslist. Previous owner swapped the pickup for a Duncan Phat Cat and the stock potentiometers for CTS ones, resulting in a clear and punchy tone that works extremely well with my VT30.

Good workhorse guitar

This came with a P90 in it, which is cool. I really dig the way my pedals respond to it. I did a treble-bleed mod to it and now it's gorgrous.

henrico_gouvea

Great for the price

Way better than any guitar on the same price range. Solid construction easy setup. Good starter.

good giutar

good giutar, but I prefer 2 pickups (humbuckers). I like the pickup it has, but it doesn't sound the same. If you're looking for gear used by a famous artist, Billie Joe Armstrong uses this alot.
