My strat

Olympic White with a beautiful tortoise pickguard. Made in Ensenada (MEX) in 2013-14. Love the glossy maple fretboard. I got it used, mint conditions. Installed a Seymour Duncan JB (Trembucker TB-4) on bridge position.

From Gear Setup
T

good strat for any experience level

This was my first ever real fender and I like it a lot, you can ring a lot of great tones on it, I have this guitar in red with a maple board. The bridge pickup is just that little bit too sharp to get a good overdrive tone, and on some settings on mu amp, the clean tone is a little bit weak, however, I love my strata and its a very versatile guitar.

Mexican Strat (Olympic White)

My 2007 strat has an unglazed fret board which makes it incredibly smooth and quick to play. The neck pickup sounds so good its unreal and I love using this guitar for creating reverby goodness!

jimmarchi1

Is the body alder or poplar?

charliewallis

Alder :)

jimmarchi1

Nice! I remember you used to have to buy a classic or signature series mexi strat to get alder. In the 90s even the sunburst mexi standards were poplar. My buddy had one, a nice single piece of poplar with unusually attractive grain for the species, but no matter what he did it was just all wrong. Poplar sounds weird to me. You can just hear a poplar strat. Something is off in the mids. Especially through a Marshall. But now I'm nerding out about budget guitar wood. I'll stop.

charliewallis

Haha, very interesting to know! I've been really impressed by how good it sounds for a mexican strat. Still fancy bagging an american standard in the future though.

jimmarchi1

I have never kept an American strat. They have sucked my entire life. the 2 pin bridge is a bad design. 6 screws is not ideal, but 2 pins is total bunk the way that fender implemented them. I really like Mexi strats. If yours has the kluson-style tuners and they aren't working out for you, tonepros makes sealed, self-lubricated Grover-style tuners that look just like Klusons and drop right in with no drilling needed. Otherwise I recommend Schaler minis or Sperzels. I never really had a problem with the Kluson type though.

charliewallis

Going to have a look into them tuners now, thanks man appreciate the advise! Definitely planning on modding my strat so things like that will come in handy when choosing parts.

jimmarchi1

There's always room to personalize even the fanciest guitars, right? Being a guitar guy is like being into muscle cars or choppers.

jimmarchi1

you should get a vintage tort or gold anodized pickguard for an olympic white strat...

check out my gear porn section to see how sexy my white strat looks with the old school tort...

This is my first ever guitar that I have used to learn! The first song that I learned on guitar is Jesus Of Suburb by Green Day

firewatcher

My first guitar

Mine is a 2002 model in blue agave with a rosewood fretboard. From the Please Standby EP era (2008) until 2014, it had a slanted humbucker in the bridge and various stickers. Currently it has been returned to the stock S/S/S configuration and all stickers have beem removed. Used as main live guitar in Foxes Have Holes, as backup and drop C# guitar in Please Standby

For the first six years of Mannequin Pussy, if you saw Missy, you saw this Strat. Three days before MP's first tour, her house was ransacked including her beloved Jaguar. ("It was the first guitar I spent real money on.") She rushed down to a local Philly guitar store and scooped this Fender MIM Strat. The last half-dozen years she upgraded all its hardware and pickups, but it was still no match for the Rev Jetstream 390.
