Gibson 2014 SG Special review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

Offering a blend of tradition and modernity, the Gibson SG Special 120 Anniversary impresses with excellent tones and value. While its Butterscotch finish may not appeal to all, the guitar's classic dual-humbucker setup and discreet coil-split options provide versatile soundscapes. The '60s slim-profile neck ensures a smooth playability, making it a joy for chording and soloing. Though priced lower than some of its 2014 siblings, the SG Special delivers rich, aggressive tones that echo the legends associated with the SG model. It's a standout for those seeking classic rock sounds with modern conveniences.

Gibson quality; Epiphone budget

This is my go-to guitar and has been for over a decade. Honestly surprised not more outlets covered the coil-splitting when you pull up on the volume pots, because that turns this into a whole different guitar, all in one package. Makes it incredibly versatile and I don't often have to switch to anything else to get the sound I want out of it.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

This guitar can be a roaring beast, a needle threading through a tight riff, a capable fuzzmonster, and you get single-coil-esque chime out of the pickups when split. Splitting both coils and riding the middle switch selection gives me incredible sparkle and near-jangle. Give it a shot!

I will be buried with this guitar.

My all time favorite guitar. You can get your normal SG tones plus, with the coil splits, you can get tones that sound like a Strat. This girl does it all!
