The Gurus Optivalve aims for warmth but delivers a mushy, unfocused sound due to its low-voltage tube design. While it offers a flat frequency response without loss of highs or lows, it struggles with noise and lacks punch and articulation. The compression indicator is only effective with high input, and the pedal's size might not suit all setups. Overall, it's not ideal for recording, and its cool aesthetics can't compensate for its sonic shortcomings.
